Okay, the Champions: News of the World book is now in my grubby little paws, and this gives me the excuse to put up an old timey poll :)
So, as of 2007 in the official 5th Ed CU, which of these teams do you like most?
The Champions: Defender, Ironclad, Kinetik, Nightwind, Sapphire, and Witchcraft
Project Mongoose: Nighthawk, Duke Steel, Micro Man II, Scarlet Archer II, and Signal Ghost
The Sentinels: Black Rose, Diamond, Diadem, Bravo, Dr. Vox, and Proteus
The Justice Squadron: Blink, Brawler III, The Drifter, Flashover, Superstar, and Tomahawk II
I've limited it to those with at least some write ups for the team, though if you have any other teams mentioned in the book you would love to see fleshed out or sound interesting feel free to bring em up.

I'm going to have to go with the Sentinels, although the Liberty League and Alliance have some interesting-sounding members.

I like both the Sentinels and Justice Squadron, but I think I like the JS a little bit more.

I actually went with the Champions, probably biased as I've used them a lot in the past few years, but some of the developments were pretty #$#ing cool. The bit on Defender's armor and Cybermind is most stealworthy for example.

Oh, definitely, the Champions had lots of cool improvements and plot developments. They are moving away from "Teen Titans as sidekick gathering" to "Teen Titans as team that gets into legitimate superbrawls with the JLA."
Also, I hope the Sapphire hate disappears. Sapphire is cool.

Not as cool as Witchcraft, but she's cool.

I haven't seen that much Sapphire hate, though folks have been pretty dismissive of her but the update if anything indicates she's got her priorities right, choosing heroism over stardom. I found the lack of mention of Teen Dream in the book interesting in itself. For awhile it looked like TD's write up in Teen Champions was playing up some sort of 'out with the old, in with the new' celebrity thing, but no mention is made here. Probably there just wasn't room, but one could read it in other ways. Perhaps Teen Dream's popularity sputtered out, and Sapphire simply out lasted her, maybe Teen Dream was exposed as Teleios' creation, or maybe Sapphire is just above that sort of celebrity sniping and really could care less WHAT Teen Dream is up to.

Another vote for the Champions. The histories provided really drew me in and made me love these characters. I especially like how some of the changes to the writeups are explained in terms of "campaign" events (example: Witchcraft's "Eye of Horus" power).

Whoa, the Champions have the lead, didn't see that one coming. Of course, that's only out of 7 votes :)

Or they'll let the individual GMs/players decide for themselves what will happen.
Ghastly idea time: your PC hero gets involved in a love triangle with Teen Dream and Sapphire. Imagine what their catfight would be like!
And BTW -- does anyone remember Brainchild's (from CKC) mad-on for the Drifter? If Brainy still means to get even with Drifty, he'd beter start spending some XP.
I mean... 150 point VPP? :angst: :fear:

It wasn't the new Champions, that's for sure.
Especially Defender. I hate to say this...but please...please...
Please don't build characters that can't justify building their own powered armor anymore? Please? Defender's concept is held together on the thinnest of strings. This character begs for eight or nine science skills he just doesn't have.

The Sentinels. Mainly for one reason: how cool is Bravo?

Thanks! Dave Weinstein gets a bunch of the credit for him- I designed him originally, but in the playtest Dave made him all kinds of fun (and created his boat!) and helped me refine his background. (Dave also played a swashbuckler in the GA playtests- the man can swing on a chandelier in any time period.) dw

Say, Darren, which team do you like the best?

Wow, that's a toughie. I had great fun coming up with Nighthawk's gang, for sure. But I'd have to say the Sentinels- not only did I design them all from the start (as opposed to the JS, who were all at least first named by Steve), but three of them were strongly influenced by close friends (Black Rose by Jason, Bravo by Dave, and Proteus, who was originally a PC in one of my games years ago and played by Riley McLaughlin, though I actually wrote his backstory. Riley played him as an amnesiac and trusted me to write up and slowly reveal his secret origin.) Diadem was based on a character I played back in college with 3rd Ed., too. So there's a whole social element to them for me personally, beyond how they came out in the book. dw

I am with Mitchellss on this one. He summed up my feelings exactly about the JS and Diamond. I would have loved to seen the Vanguard lead JS though.
