Hey guys! To all who thought the move was supposed to be done by now, well, me too. However, the trucks carrying Hero's (and my personal) belongings have been somewhat delayed in their cross-country journey, and so we're still not set up here on the East Coast. The good news is I haven't waited to get us office space, and have high hopes that I'll be hearing some good news on tht front in the next day or so. However, until the trucks get here I am without my computers (I'm typing this from a cyber cafe in Queens), not to mention my bed, chairs, and library, so please bear with us while we get put back together out here. Thanks as always! dw

Best of luck Darren! I hope that everything arrives soon and that the unpacking is a lot less eventful.

Have fun!
(And if, perchance, you go to see The Lion King while waiting, tell Patrick Page that I said hi.) ;)

Hey all! My stuff, both Hero and personal, finally arrived yesterday, so now my apartment is filled to the brim with boxes. I'm also happy to announce that I have a new office, on E. 54th St. near 3rd Avenue in Manhattan, not too far from Radio City Music Hall. I always knew I'd make it on Broadway some day! I signed the lease and got the keys today and will be moving in over the weekend, once I've sorted out what goes where out of the approximately 100 boxes in my living room. More updates as warranted, but the madness is coming to a close at last! dw

Did you get superhero insurance? I mean, I hear New York is lousy with them.

Manhattan? Wow. And I thought I lived in an overpriced area of the country.

Hey Darren, I'm glad your move is finally finished, and with things intact if delayed. Just out of curiosity, did the folks moving your stuff offer any reason why they were a week or so late?

Not really- they gave us a range of dates, and then missed the latest by a day. It's all here safely now, though, so I've certainly heard far worse horror stories.
NYC's pretty fun so far. I live in Astoria, an apparently "up-and-coming" part of Queens where young hipsters live side-by-side with old Greek families that have been here for generations. So, as you might expect, the eating's pretty damn good. OTOH, the only decent game store I've found so far in all five boroughs is Compleat Strategist down by the Empire State building. dw

Astoria, huh? A couple of young ladies I know from the local theatre scene used to live in Astoria. (One's back in Oregon, and I think the other's in Manhattan.)

That is a lot more common in companies where work can be done from anywhere (like writing/editing). With the rising prevalence of digital communication tools (VoIP, Video Conferencing, etc...) face-to-face meetings can be conducted virtually while still being able to get a read on those you are talking to.

Hey, Darren, there used to be THREE Compleat Strategist stores in Manhattan. (Visited all three on a business trip years ago.)
One was in Rockefeller Center, and one was up around 58th Street or thereabouts.
All three were within walking distance of Times Square (if you don't mind walking 10 blocks or so).
The best one is the one by the Empire State Building, though. It was the largest and had by far the largest selection.

There is or was a Compleat Strategist in Philadelphia PA for years, I use to go there all through college at Temple Uni. Then a few years latter (late 80's or early 90's) they closed that store and moved it out of the city to King of Prussia area south/west of Phila. It was a major pain in the butt to get to and located off a major congestion nexus hub area back on local roads that if you were not looking for it you would never find it. I have not been there in years (almost 10+), and don't even know if it is even still there.

Success! I am making my first post from my newly wired office here on East 54th. Still need to unpack a lot of boxes and get a new reference bookshelf delivered, and get phone service put in, but at least we now have the intarweb tubes running correctly. Huzzah!
Oh, and there used to be, I believe, 13 Compleat Strats around the New York/Jersey/Penn general area, but now there are only 4 and just one of those is in the City. A sad but telling statistic of the modern era of RPG retailing.

I think there was a Compleat Strategist in the Baltimore area, but not anymore....

There was one in Falls Church, VA as well.. and I was shocked it lasted as long as it did. There were and are several better run game shops in the DC area.
