In terms of Powers. I like Telekinesis in various forms. A Gauntlet provides protection, acts as a Weapon, allows the user to Grab Weapons, etc...

Darth Vader uses his Force Powers to absorb Han Solo's Blaster Bolts, but he could have been wearing a Gauntlet. The Armoured First has long been a symbol.

Off the top of my head, I can tell you that Dorn is Gaelic for "Fist", (frankly because that's what I called my personal guard back in the day), largely inspired by my clan symbol which is a raised fist clenching a blade.

There is a story related, tho I've seen it attributed to many different figures, so I'll keep it generic... might be handy for some kind of back story.
Fighting for a crown, two claimants and their followers laid veritable waste fighting across the land they disputed, almost destroying the prize in the process. At last the claimants agreed to settle the claim by trial, as adjudicated by a holy man. At the beach the trial was set... the first to swim to the breakers and then lay his hand back on dry earth would rule this coast line as far in each direction as he could walk in three days. The two would be kings raced, and swam as one to the breakers, but as they turned it was clear that the younger and stronger candidate was breathing easier than his older kinsman. Through sheer willpower, red-faced, the older candidate stayed close behind his younger competitor, till his feet touched sand beneath the surf, and at that touch of solid footing drew forth his dagger and cut off his own hand, flinging it fast past his young kinsman, to land solid on the dry sand of shore. He then tied fast his wound, rinsed it with the salt of the ocean and burned it with fire, picked up his hand, and marched out the boundaries of his new domain.

Maybe the magic gauntlet was something he had created to replace his lost hand....

The only gauntlets I can think of with a mythological backround are Thor's Iron Gloves. Perhaps they would grant electromagnetic control (such electrical blasts and extra STR when wielding metal objects).

Here is a list of other items where I found the gloves.

A single black rubber glove, almost elbow-length, for protection against electricity. Appears to be somewhat worn and chemical-stained, but still in sound usable condition. When worn, grants amazing science skills and a tendency toward recklessness and megalomania.

A single sequined glove. Grants some musical talent, but also has a cumulative negative effect on your sanity and causes facial disfigurement.

Oh, wait, mythical.

I might not be of much help. But when I was younger I read alot of the GM and Player books for AD&D. One thing I enjoyed was a series of spells created by " Bigby ".

Before I even played my first game, I had an idea for an Artifact Gauntlet which provided free and unlimited use of a form of these spells.

A slightly over large plate gauntlet made for the right hand. Magically forged of pure adamantite (or whatever hardest metal your game has.) and lined with the softest and rarest silk. The metal is flawlessly smooth, always polished, without any adornment save for a large flawless and smooth diamond set into the back of the hand. This diamond glows blueish white when the magic of the gauntlet is used.

The Gauntlet was created for an ancient king by a god who ordained his just and kind rule. The god told the king that the gauntlet was a symbol for his rule. To rule with a will as strong as the fist but a heart as the silk upon the hand. So it was the king and his descendants rules strongly and just but with kindness and compassion for his subjects.

This is all that is known of the gauntlet of rule as it came to be called by scholars and historians.

Just a thought I had and carry with me.
