Just a few things that were bothering me about HD:

- Can I change the default design templates. The ones that show up under Set Template? What if I never want to use those - am I stuck with them? I changed the cost of STR (to two points) in the sample templates for all normals and HEROes, but it didn't register in HERO Designer. I have to go manually load them from the folder.

- When I try to use the sample templates, something goes wrong. My equipment might be different. When I try to build Armor with the default "Standard Hero", I automatically have limitations available like "Real Armor" and "Real Mass", but when I load the Standard Hero from the Sample Templates folder, those aren't available. ???

1) No. Those are the "built in" templates. They are maintained by me and cannot be changed. What you're looking to do is to create a custom template. You can locate the custom template anywhere on your hard drive....but you have to select it via File -> Set Template -> Choose File...

2) The only reason for that would be that the template that you're using doesn't have those disadvantages defined. Make sure you're using a current copy of the template for your "starting point" (they're available in the Free Stuff section).
