Hi folks,
At Gen Con I recorded an interview with Darren Watts, whom I'm sure you're well aware is President of Hero Games. It was an interesting interview for me. We discussed what the term Indie means, why the Hero system is 500 or so pages, and quite a few other things. You can listen to it here:

I'd love to answer any questions, or hear any thoughts you might have about the interview.

Oh, I know what I'm going to be listening to on my way home from work today. I might not even make it that long, I might listen on my lunch break. Can't wait!

I downloaded it, burned it as an audio CD to a CD-RW, and I'll be listening to it on my way home today!
Awesomeness!

Good interview... Darren enters Rant Mode at a few points.. kinda funny.
He makes some good points that should be turned into an introduction on the Hero System about what it is, what it does, and why.

You could hear it.... Which is better since I imagine him hitting a stack of D20 Books and having them break....
I need to get "I want to play F-ing Herculoids right now!" as my voicemail message.

Good interview. At first I thought I was being diverted to some grunge-band sample music, but once we got past that, good info.

Hi Nolgroth,
That's a song some friends made about me long ago which is why I use it as the intro, I'm working on something new that is more "neutral", as you aren't the only person who has mentioned it as not being a "feature."
Hi Ghost-Angel,
I'll try to make time before the weekend is over and extract that blurb in .wav form for you, so you'll have something lossless to play with, rather than a lossy .mp3.

I think Darren should do a TalkShoe talkcast where we could all call in and talk about the system.

Darn Army firewall is blocking mp3 downloads (and www.herodesigner.com to boot.)

Man...if only I had been able to get in on that with the initial investors. Where was I then?
Anyway, this was a great insight into the backstory of DOJ. Thanks!

Darren also gave a great talk/Q&A session this weekend at HEROCON. Entertaining and enlightening.
As an aside: I now need everyone to bug Susano about doing Nija Hero Two: Pirate Ninjas.

Heh. I thought it was a pretty good interview- Clyde's a nice guy, and I'm easy to get worked up on a few topics. If you're not up on the indie game design scene, "Chad" is Chad Underkoffler, "Ron" is Ron Edwards, "John" is John Wick, "Jared" is Jared Sorenson, and "Luke" is Luke Crane. All are outstandingly talented designers who have written some of the coolest games around, and you should go out and google them or something and then buy many of their products. I frequently find myself on panels, in discussions in a booth, or arguing over beers with any or all of them about game design aesthetics, and they always have fascinating stuff to say even when they're dead wrong. ;) And yes, I do talk with my hands. This was recorded in my hotel room, and we didn't have much room for Clyde's recording setup, so I was always in danger of knocking all his stuff askew. Thanks Clyde! dw

Yeah, that and the "gun fetish" line.
The most profound, in an offhand way, I put in my sig. :)
