I'm interested in starting a game of Fantasy Hero, but I don't have the Hero System 5th ed. rulebook, and can't seem to find it anywhere online (although Amazon has some used copies for almost A HUNDRED DOLLARS!)
Is it available anymore? If not, will Fantasy Hero alone suffice?
Thanks!

Its not out of print, its just not sold in most mainstream venues. You can buy it from the online store on this very same web site. https://www.herogames.com/browse.htm
EDIT: Actually I checked and only the pdf version is available. Hmm...
Fantasy HERO alone will not suffice. In the HERO System all the rules are in the main book, only. Genre books might introduce some new optional rules, but they do not reprint the rules themselves.

I saw one "damaged" copy in the online store at herogames.com, but either I'm not using the store correctly, or there aren't any new copies for sale?
Thanks for the help!

Yeah, looks like they're out too. Paizo looks like theyve got some:

They're probably just out of stock, the "damaged" copies are almost alway no more damaged than what you'd find as standard shelf wear in a store. I'd go and pick one of those up from the Hero Store if I were you.
I own several "damaged" books I bought through Hero and I've yet to find the damage on a few of them.

Seconded. I bought a "damaged" copy of Fifth Revised, and once corner was a little bent on the cover. No worse than a week or three shelf wear.

My experience with purchasing Fifth Revised concurs with this.

Someone buy the domain? Or was the going out of business sale just to clear out some old inventory.

Maybe it was such a successful sale they were able to stay open?

Thanks for all the help; I purchased the "damaged" copy from the herogames website, and will see if I can make my old "Dark Champions" book work with the new system.
Hmmm...Harbinger....

You could adapt the old one, but the new Dark Champions is well worth the price. You should treat yourself for Christmas!

I love Dark Champs. But be warned: it's not the same game as 4Ed DC. 5Ed DC covers the entire modern action-adventure genre, not just "street-level" superheroes. It's a terrific book, and I'm not trying to talk anyone out of buying it. Just don't want you to be surprised if it's not what you were expecting.

Yes DC is, well, DC, plus a lot of the material covered by the what used to be Espionage/Danger International. (The new DC is a big old genre book!)

Dark Champions is, as Darren put it, Steve's Gun Fetish Book.

If it's possible, this might actually be an understatement!
