Ladies, if you'll all line up, yes yes, just like that... what? Okay, yes, the sashs are a bit stereotypical, but be grateful, some of these guys wanted to put you in school girl outfits. What's that? No, fishnets are a perfectly respectable garb for superheroines, #1, a true tradition. #4 if you worry no one will take you seriously in 'pink' just describe it by another term and act snooty if anyone calls it anything else. What? 1,2, AND 3 are requesting LS Immune to cold? That doesn't fit your power set and.. oh, uhm, yes, bare shoulders or legs COULD be a problem in the Great Lakes region come Winter...yes, I admit. Look, Howler gets along in Millennium City just fine so stop fussing...sides, maybe you'll be somewhere else or this is your SUMMER costume.
Okay, I promise, if a better artist comes along and wants to jazz the winning outfit up, I'll yield to my betters.

*AHEM*

Sorry about that, fellow posters, as we get down to the nitty gritty, the wire before I just go ahead and make a character up with what we've got (or almost got), there's that crucial part of making a superhero-The Costume.

Using Hero Machine 2.5, four "looks" have been made for our heroine. Please vote for one. Obviously if you ever use her for your own, you may want to make your own costume from scratch... but for purpose of our committee, this should do ;)

The poll will end in two days.

I've reached a stalemate between #2 and #3. I'd like #2 a lot more if the boots were different. If they had the chevron-shaped bits that her bracers have #2 would be my choice. As it is, I'll have to come back and take another look later. No vote from me yet.

Costume 1. Because she's female and we want FLESH !

(So I'm a deviant, amd your point is what exactly ?)

I have to go with the fishnets. Rowr. I'm not crazy about the color scheme, but I think a good artist could make this work. (Likewise #4. )

Yeah, Fashion sense ain't my forte I admit.

But at least she's not Captain Ultra :)

Now you've got me wondering what a femme version of Captain Ultra would look like...

So -that's- why they put us in the same sitting area for this train ride

I like the old-school 4-color campaigns and costume #4 fits that mold best.

I WAS a bit worried about what colors might mean what in Japanese culture and that I might accidentally be giving some strange message, but then I remembered that Ninja chic comes in all styles too, and this was the same country that inspired Mighty Morphin Power Rangers...suddenly, it didn't seem to matter nearly as much what colors meant ;)

Pink and white with a star on the chest doesn't exactly fit Earth Control. Choice three screams martial artist, which she isn't. Choice 2 is totally generic. Choice 1 on the other hand hand has the stone pattern. Were you deliberately stacking the deck in favour of fishnets?

"Get your rocks off" pun goes here.

"The White Ranger! Death is upon us!

Y'know, "white" is the traditional colour of mourning in Japan.

#2 all the way. How can you go wrong with a midriff and bustier? :bounce: :bounce:

I like the "ninja"-ey feel of the second one, so that's what I voted for.

Short answer, nope.
Long answer: That's a diamond on the chest, though there is a star cut for #4
Choice three didn't seem to scream martial artist to me. I thought the gloves actually had a bit of a 'works in the dirt' kind of vibe. Choice #2 being generic? Maybe, it was intended to be in part a Wonder Woman homage, and she is the Godmother of superheroines so to speak.

If I'd really wanted to stack the deck in favor of fishnets, they'd all have that ;)

#1: fishnets are the thing these days...umm, anydays, it seems

Yeah, that was kind of the reason for the ranger joke

While I heartily agree, I had to go with the Ninja inpired #3

(since it is the Day Of The Ninja (http://dayoftheninja.com/index2.html) )

You know, if you'd done #4 with grey in place of the pink, and black on the gloves, belt and boots I'd be all over it. As it is, I've gotta go with the old Mockingbird fishnets fetish.

It occurs to me that if this were truly by committee there should be a separate poll for each part of the costume and then the whole put together.

Admittedly, our committee had dictatorial leanings

LOL That it did, and as we all know a committee has to have a dictat... er... leader.

Well, the nice thing for me is each one has gotten SOME votes, so hopefully that means there are folks who think they don't suck.

Either that, or some of you are voting for least sucky ;) Either way

The third costume is the best, but that bandit mask is just hideous.

How about costume 3 with the mask from 1 and the bracers from 2 instead of the gloves?

Might work wonderfully, still won't win since it isn't on the poll. This is a committee, we don't think outside the box ;)

Goota go with #1. If fishnets were okay for the Black Canary, they're good enough for our girl.
Nothing wrong with fishnets at all.
Nope.
No siree!

(Hey tribble, squeeze would you, this side of the train is getting kinda' cramped.)

I like the old-school 4-color campaigns and costume #4 fits that mold best. That, and of the four it seems like something that a Japanese woman would be most likely to wear in public (culturally speaking... not that I'm any sort of expert on Japanese culture).

Just a reminder, she's going to be doing her super heroing in America

Toss-up between #1 and #4 for me, as well - I prefer the general scheme of #4 in a Japanese-inspired anime/power rangers sort of way, but #1 has the color scheme.

I went with #4, mainly due to overriding cultural considerations.

Yeah, but she's still Japanese born and raised, isn't she? (Or do we want to make a poll for that?)

Already come and gone, and yup. she is . Japanese, happy middle class childhood. Not sure how strict her parents were by the standards of modern Japanese culture or exactly how much it varies.

Of course, we also don't know how she got her costume, so I think a story for one of the others could be rationalized. Maybe she has a friend who's corrupting her . Maybe she has a rebellious streak she only feels safe exercising with a mask. Maybe it was the only thing in the warehouse when she first needed a costume to change into (Alla Monica Rambeau's storyline in the 80s)

#4 was my selection, though removal of the mask in three and replacement with almost anythign would immediately switch me back to three.

I have seen Japanese women wearing some pretty darn bizzare things in public. Just walk down the streets of Tokyo, and every now and then you just have to do this double-take. "What was that?" Eventually the strange concoction of odd fabric, makeup, mouse and hair color resolves itself into a woman, but it takes a minute to dig through the outlandishness.

Number Three is the winnah! and I'll have a new poll up soon.
