I jumped in and bought the first one that came out from Wizards of the Coast 2 years or so back. But, how different/improved is the updated version that came out a year or so after that?
Hasbro Cash Grab? or genuine improvement.

Jedi's get a lightsaber at first level.
Armor is done differently. If I remember right, it takes points off of damage done to you, instead of giving you a better AC.
The big drawback is that the suplementary info is mainly focused on Episode two.

I think the blaster rifle's range increment was reduced from 40 meters to 30 meters in the revision.

My vote would be for "genuine improvement." IMHO, the revised book is one of the best d20 core books out there, and I say this as someone who doesn't even particularly like the Star Wars universe (my game group was going to play SW with or without me, so I got a copy). Heck, my D&D group uses it for reference sometimes; the skills chapter is much better organized and written than the one in the PHB.
In comparison, the original version was kind of a mess. If you play SWd20, you need to go and get the revised book. Not to mention, it also has a cmpletely different starship combat system. And rules for droid PCs!

Thanks Buzz. Thats kinda what I thought, but I don't live anywhere near a game shop, so haven't been able to check it out.
I will deffinatly try to get my hands on a copy then.

Definitely keep an eye peeled for a used copy on Amazon or eBay; it may make the purchase more palatable. :)

I think a major change with the revised Star Wars was a rewrite of the space ship rules, which in the first version seemed to have been generally viewed as broken.

In the last game I played in, I also got tangled up in the changes to the "set blaster to stun" rules. The inital version "stun setting" cut the weapon's range by 80% (one range increment instead of up to five), the weapon's power by 2/3 (it still did actual damage, just one die instead of three), and could stun unless the target saved against a difficulty based on the type of blaster. In the revision, "stun range" is always just 4 meters, no actual damage can be done, and the stunning chance is the same.
Against a high level Force-using opponent, you are pretty much forced to run a high risk of killing them with full-power attacks, because they can keep boosting their saves against stunning until they drop dead from wounds.

The biggest and best addition/correction, as far as I'm concerned, was the addition of the Tech Specialist core class. Woo, TECHMONGERS!
