The greatest hero The World Has Ever Seen has died. At his funeral You have been given the responsibility?/honor? of giving the eulogy about the HERO who embodied the true meaning of the word. And he died doing what he did best, Being a Hero.

What Would Your Character Say?

Talion: "I've been asked to say a few words about Megaman. No, really. Might be the fact that Admiral DeCay has vowed to kill anyone giving an eulogy for the big lug. Anyhow, Megaman was a hero's hero. Those of you who know me, know I'm a bitter, bitter man. And even I kind of liked Megaman.

"Everybody here knows how often Megaman saved the world, give or take a couple. Well over ten thousand people directly owe their continued lives to his intervention. He even rescued kittens from trees. He raised eighteen million dollars for the United Way last year.

"Yep, Megaman was a great guy, and as far as I can tell was so busy he never had time to have a dark side. We're all going to miss him, and I mean pretty much immediately during the upcoming demonic invasion.

"Here's to Megaman, and to the hope that he'll soon come back from the dead!"

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Well -- maybe I could've. But it would take more time than I'm willing to spend.

Glad you were up to the task.

Assuming Badger attends I assume.

Badger: "The man was a great hero. That is all." (not one to waste, that Badger. :straight:)

Frosty Bob- Probably got drunk and hit on said hero's wife at the wake
just kidding. (he'd give a mourning period, is a week enough?) Cant really see him giving a moving eulogy. If he got asked to speak the eulogy, someone must have a sense of humor.

Note: Actually, if Badger was a friend of the hero. He wouldnt be attending, because he would be out and about for revenge.

"I'd just like to start off saying that when I saw Megaman's final moment on this Earth, the first words from my mouth were, 'Nobody could have possibly survived that!' Given the way things tend to work in this world, that pretty much ensures that Megaman will return in, oh, six months or so."

I think all of my characters would politely decline.

Volt - getting him to speak publically would be a problem, but if pushed or he looked up to the guy "We are here to mourn Megamans passing. The world is lessened today, but he is not gone. As long as the good he did, the people he saved remains, he is not trully gone. And as long as people remember and honor him he is with us. Go with God, Megaman."

Olorin "Megaman has died. We will miss him. He was one of the best. Given that, I'll see if I can reserach a spell to bring him back." He's serious. It would start a ruckus. He would probably not be able to do it and adventure at the same time, but he'd try for a while and then announce his failure.

Black Tiger Yeah, right. Public speaking. If he was killed by a villian what he would say would be "(bad guys name), you are next!" and stomp off.

Futurian "I was asked to speak today. Why, I have no clue. Perhaps being from the future, someone had the sm*rt*ss idea I would speak about 'never knowing one's future.' or similar rot. Given that, Megaman was a great hero and we will miss him. Now let's honor his memory and kick some villian behind."

Without knowing more about this fallen hero, it would be impossible for Zl'f to give a eulogy. She'd only be willing to give a eulogy for someone she personally knew and admired.

She'd only be willing to give a eulogy for someone she personally knew and admired.I second that - Phidippus is of a serious enough bent concerning death that he'd try to tailor a speech to the fallen hero in question, and would suggest other candidates if he honestly felt someone else would be better at the job.

However, since I still want to contribute to the thread in at least a tangential fashion (though I'm in a bad mood and feeling lazy), I'll refer you to a post of mine from an older thread (Pariah's 'WWYCD: Write Your Own Obituary') - in this case, it's what Phidippus would hope to hear about himself:

<Ahem>

Today we mourn the loss of one of the city's, indeed, the world's most stalwart defenders - Phidippus. In the brief time that we knew him, he proved to us that true heroism transcends the darkest past, and that sincere redemption is not just a naive dream.

From humble origins he came: an orphan, taken in by vipers, and given great power with the intention that he use it for destruction and evil. Those vipers, as did many who sought to commit hateful acts against those around them, underestimated his fortitude, courage, and unquenchable spirit of decency; and against all odds, Phidippus cast off the shackles of treachery and deceit, and embraced his true destiny - using his lightning-quick wits and unparalleled athletic prowess as our cherished defender, role model, and friend.

Though he faced incredible challenges on a daily basis, not for a single moment did his dedication to his noble ideals falter; though others might have used such astounding abilities for selfish purposes, he pledged them to our defense and well-being; and even though he stared down modern-day demons whose darkness threatened to envelop our very souls, he maintained the lighthearted spirit and good nature that touched everyone who knew him, however short-lived their acquaintance. He has left an enduring legacy, both for those who knew him and those generations yet to come.

We will all miss Phidippus. Though he is gone, he will live on eternally, providing we remember him, and follow the example he set for us. In that sense, at least, his immortality is assured.

Phidippus leaves behind no next of kin, but all those kind and decent in the world, especially the children, called him "friend".

All those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Memorial Park, Tuesday at 9:00 AM, where the Mayor will unveil the statue commissioned in his memory. Please bring a donation of non-perishable items to be given to the food bank, gently used clothing of any kind for the homeless shelter and orphanage, or a monetary donation for the above if you are able.

I was surprised that thread didn't get more responses - it seemed like a very interesting question...

Jack-a-Dandy would *not* be invited to do anything of the sort, since he would (regardless of his relationship with the deceased or their gender) insist on beginning:

"I remember the last time we made love, how amused we both were at the expression on the Pope's face..."

or something similar.

Thia has already had to give too many eulogies as it is. And write far too many letters that begin:

"To the family of Lance Corporal Aelero;

I solemnly regret to inform you that..."

Thia, while he would very likely get the letter telling him to extol the virtues of some dead hero, would most assuredly decline.

No one would ask Jarome. Half the time, Jarome doesn't exist. :nonp:

clearly whoever invited Vitus to give a eulogy is insane.

"I'ld never heard of the ape in question before I came here.

Of course, once I did come, I never stopped hearing about him - 'Oh, Captain X has thwarted the Devil Goblins from Neptune again' , ' 'Remember that time Captain X used the Crimson Nasal Cavity's own doomsday device against him?'

And what does our opinion of the insufferable bastard matter anyway? His soul will be judged in the afterlife by those entities with long experience in such assessments, and dispatched to whatever afterlife seems indicated.

Thus, my only memory of him will be thinking what a wasted oppurtunity he presented. There's so much more he could have achieved with his powers, if only he hadn't listened to idiots that keep complaining about things like habeas corpus, or national borders.

That is all."

Megoman was a ten foot tall beastman who showered in vodka and fed his baby shrimp scampi.

Revenant: "We have come here to honor the passing of American Eagle. He was the best of us. He was unique in his ability to know what was just, right, and good. He was an inspiration to us all....

And he was the only thing holding me back. If you are a career criminal, you have now been officially warned."
