View Full Version : Question: Cops, Crews and Cabals what gives?

I just bought the Cops, Crews and Cabals book and I have to tell you that I was very upset when it arrived. In the description I read that the IHA was going to be detailed within and was really excited to see it.
It includes the mutant-hating Institute for Human Advancement, bounty hunters who specialize in superhuman prey, the Metahuman Activities Response Squad of the Millennium City Police Department, laboratories dedicated to studying supertechnology, and many more.
I am getting set to run a mutant game and really wanted this information. Enough to pay the rather hefty $30 price tag. Then I get the book and find that the IHA is NOT contained in it.
Is the IHA going to be released at all?
The book overall is okay, but not at all a must have. Once again the art is abyssmal (a fact with Hero books that is getting very tiresome) and if it weren't for the stated IHA inclusion I probably would have kept my money and taken my family to dinner. I know that time's are tough and paying for art is rather low on the list but at the very least I think that you should provide what you advertise.
What recourse do I have besides getting my money back from the retailer?

First, where did that post come from? I do not believe that I or anyone else with the company ever said that. In fact, I said at least once or twice on these boards that the IHA would *not* be in the book.

It came from the Online Store. Unfortunately I didn't check the boards before I placed the order.
I have since seen that you did say that the IHA wouldn't be included but the Store was never changed.

Specifically, the store entry at https://www.herogames.com/viewItem.htm?itemID=226597 says that the IHA is included...

Yep, it sure does say that.

OK, as soon as I get some stuff working right on my computer I'll change that. My apologies for the oversight.
The most appropriate thing in this situation, Deadman, would be for you to return the book to the place you purchased it from and get a refund from them. For obvious reasons, generally speaking we can't offer refunds for books we don't sell directly to the consumer. However, if you'd like to discuss the situation further, please PM Darren; he's the one who handles such things for us. He's leaving for Dreamation later today, I believe, so it may take him a few days to get back to you.

Thanks Steve, I'm too lazy to send it back and honestly the cash isn't worth the time it would take me to do so. Sorry about the tone of the post but I was pretty upset when I got it and sent it out in a rather bad mood. I really wanted to bring it to your attention and find out when the IHA is going to be released. Any insight?
Thanks,

No worries -- it's only fair to be upset if we said the book was going to have something and it didn't. I've corrected the O.S. entry, but I'm still not entirely sure how that information was put there in the first place. It also somehow credited *Andy* as being the book's author, so I suspect... gremlins. Or maybe Andy. ;)
I can't reveal anything about our revised 2008 or all-new 2009 schedule just yet, but the IHA is one of the remaining "gaps" that we'd like to go ahead and get filled. They don't need huge amounts of information, but they need and deserve more coverage than I could've given them in CCC. And that's all I'll say for now. :eg:

FWIW the contents blurb for CCC as it appeared in the Online Store until today, is the same as in the advance announcement of the 2007 publication schedule at Dundracon in February 2006, as relayed to these forums by archermoo: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41854&highlight=cops+crews+cabals
Perhaps early on the inclusion of the IHA was intended, but when it was decided not to no one remembered to check the ad blurb. :)

Oh, good. I can blame archermoo. :) Regardless of the fact that he got the text from me. That's irrelevant. What's important is that archermoo is to blame. Bad, bad archermoo!

IIRC, the IHA was considered for inclusion in the earliest discussions of the book, but was rejected pretty early on simply because the topic needed more room than we'd be able to give. My apologies too for not catching the store description. dw
