View Full Version : Question on Dark Champions

First of all not a gripe, just a question

Ok, I realize the manuscript for Dark Champions probably consists of "the night was wet...." Ok, probably not even that much. But I have a question, concern whatever, in the past Dark Champions was basically a low power supers setting, the blurb for the DC genre book looks like it will be including stuff for running heroic level technothriller, military, etc, and that is also the idea I have from Steves previous posts on this subject but all the supplemental materials listed for 2004 sounds more like supers oriented stuff, not source material for "realistic" heroic games.

So what I am asking is does DoJ plan to support DC with material for post apacalypse, technothriller, horror, military, law enforcement and such or is it still primarily going to be for low powered supers.

Well, my initial disclaimer is that none of this yet is set in stone. However, the thinking as of now is that Dark Champions subsumes all of the street-level, "realistic" grim-n-gritty action genres, and that in the end there's enough similarity between low-powered "Dark Supers" and action movie/thrillers to combine them into one over-arching "genre."

There will be extensive support under the "DC" umbrella for most of the sub-genres you refer to: military, law enforcement of various types, etc., as well as yer standard street supers. I think both Post-Apocalyptic and Horror Hero would eventually get books of their own, that would include tips and tricks about combining both with DC and with other genres. OTOH, Police Hero would be a DC subgenre book.

Assuming all goes according to the Great Hero Master Plan (TM), beginning in 2005 you can look forward to 2-3 support books/year for Dark Champions and all of its' sub-sub-genres, as long as fans keep buying them.

DC has nothing to do with post-apocalyptic (which is covered in Star Hero) or horror, really, though you could have horror elements in it and there'll be the usual "metagenres" section in the book covering the topic.

Generally speaking, it covers all sorts of modern-day action-adventure stuff, including the others you mention as well as costumed vigilantes. Gimme about a year, and I'll start a "what do you want to see?" thread where you can raise your ideas in greater detail. :)

Ok, I'll wait........

is it ready yet......

how about now? :)

Anyway thanks for the quick response, I just became a little concerned when the sourcebooks listed sounded superish that perhaps things had changed or I had the wrong idea.

Actaully now that I've got TUV in my hands I'll probably be too busy making vehicles to notice until I notice one day that it has shipped.

I think the really important questions are: will the Blue Moon Killer, er, Harbinger of Justice be updated for the new Dark Champions? And will Timothy Gersh still look like you, Steve?

:)

Speaking as the Art Director I can share some thoughts on art for Dark Champions.

1. All villains will look like Steve. Execpt for Timothy Gersh, who will look like Greg Smith.

2. BMK/Harbinger/Uncle Harbie will be sporting an updated look -- including "Bang-o, the Justice Dog".

That's as much detail as I can share right now.

Cheers,
Andy

Can't... breath... must... stop... laughing!!!
*gasp*

Andy, I know you can't substantiate any other rumors, but I also heard rumors that Harbinger was teaming up with Copperhead, Dark Angel, Sandman, Jack O' Lantern, and a reformed Black Tarantula to form the Hudson City Defenders of Justice. Of course, Bang-o is the mascot and he supposedly has two teenager friends in the form Vinny and Tricia.

Truth or rumor?

There will be no Bang-o the Justice Dog.

Other than that, I'm keeping it all secret for now....

This is a great idea. I can just pull out a picture of Steve, and tell my players "Here's who you see..."

They'll be hopelessly confused. I can hear them now:

"But we just fought him last week! How did he get out of prison so fast? Wait ... he's a martial artist, isn't he?"

And here I had hoped that DOJ would finally produce a character that could stand up to the infamous Hulk Dogs.

Sing-a-long with Harbinger

There was a vigilante who had a dog and Bango was his name-o. B-A-N-G-O! B-A-N-G-O! B-A-N-G-O! And Bango was his name-o.

Everyone!:D

He's Bang-O, oh! Bang-O...
He's killed a man just because he can...
Fights at night with ferocious might...
He's Bang-O, oh! Bang-O...

(to the tune of the "Clay Henry" Subway ad)

Nobody liked my Bang-O song...

I guess I'll have to work on a Harbinger theme song next. Perhaps I'll start with Minnie Riperton's "Loving You"...

Dude -- I totally liked your Bang-O song. I am also looking forward to ...

"Shooting you, is easy 'cause your E-E-vil. Buddha-bu-bu-buu... Baaaanngggg -- oo".

Hopefully, it won't be sung by John Stamos' older brother and cause all the explosives in the park to go off. :D

'Course we don't need to come up with an original song for Harbinger himself. Queen already provided us with one... Another One Bites The Dust.

Heck, it's so tailored to Harbinger, it even calls him by name...

"Steve walks warily down the street,
his brim pulled way down low..."

The brim being pulled way down low obviously refers to the fedora. And of course we all know that Harbinger is really Steve's avatar character, so...

:D
