SPECIAL WHUPASS ANNOUNCEMENT:
Those of you who have played Whupass before may have noticed that this year there will be 25 event tickets instead of 20. In the past, we've always been able to add at least five players with generic tickets. This year, due to potential space restrictions at the convention center, I increased the events tickets to guarantee we would get an extra table. (I'm still hoping for an entire room, but nothing's definite at this point.)
This means we can't guarantee that any generic walk-ins will be able to play. I really think that 25 or so characters is as much as we can have and still finish the event in six hours. Note that I said "characters," not "players." So this year, we're going to try a little experiment: a few of the new characters will be "Shared Characters".
Shared Characters will be a character duo that two players can play. For purposes of taunting, they can work together. For purposes of combat, it's still one character. For example, if a hypothetical shared character named Laurel & Hardy are attacking Captain Kirk du Soleil, they can both participate in the taunt. But they would only be allowed one attack and damage roll, so Laurel & Hardy won't be any more powerful than any single character. They would also have only one STUN total, so you wouldn't have to knock out two characters to take them out.
This would allow us to fit in more players without sacrificing playability. We'll also give bonus prizes to all players who take a shared character.
I'd like to know if any players who know they'll be playing with a friend are interested in the shared character concept. Please email me with your thoughts. If you're willing to commit to playing a shared character, we might even give you a couple of hints as to what choices would be available.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We hope to see all of you at Gen Con!
