Hello all,

WOOHOO! Language Chart! Finally got the nerve to make one for the Kingdom of Tursh. Just thought I'd share. :celebrate

Very Cool. I must admit that I have thought about trying to make up a language chart from time to time but the idea always intimidated me. This one looks really sharp.

I'd have expected more ties between Slave pidgin and other established languages.

But of course, I'm ignorant of the special conditions of slaves in Tursh.

There are no slaves in Tursh, but there is in the neighboring country of the Ennas Commonwealth. They've collected slaves from so many different nations over the centuries that this 'Slave Pidgin' no longer has a solid enough similarity to other languages to even get a 1pt. relationship.

"Pidgin" might be a misnomer, then, since it refers to a simplified form of a language. You might want "patois", rather than "pidgin". =)

Really just a nitpick, tho!

Very cool!

I was thinking of doing a language chart, but wasn't sure if I'd be able to format it properly in Word. Did you use Word, or something else?

A nitpick that I will definitely be considering.

Thanks. I drew it out by hand and then worked it up in Visio 2007.

The hard part was getting it mapped out by hand. once I had that, though, it was cake putting it into Visio.

Oh.

I left off this part:

Extremely cool!

Now, of course, I'll have to start learning these languages.

Do you have an Amo-English dictionary?

Nice work! Upon initially opening the illo I thought there was one language called "Highlander Swampspeak." Now I want to design a kingdom with big swamps up in the mountains where Highlander Swampspeak -- a mix of Scottish slang and Cajun slang, no doubt! :D -- is the primary tongue. ;)

Thanks and I wish. I am currently running a campaign on HeroCentral where only one player knows Amo. So I make a general post using Altavista to translate it into Dutch, then post the "translated" version making it only visible to the one player that speaks it.

It's working out pretty spiffy, actually.

LOL, I've actually told my players that the Highlander is similar to a really bad English accent, while Swampspeak is similar to Cajun and Rivertongue is similar to Piker. One player, whose character speaks Rivertongue, has been posting with a damn fine Piker accent in the online campaign.

Thanks.

Back when I did my Rainbow Campaign, I had a language chart for it, but it wasn't near this pretty.

There should be a law against letting players post. :D
