Hi all
i searched through the book but i really missed an "overland movement" chapter

many fantasy games have something explaining how much an horse, boat, etc can do in a single march day (very few game have a good one, ofc)
btw, i found nothing in TA neither in FH nor in FREd

ok, i can go on without it; i can calculate how long an horse travel in a 8 day march assuming he's traveling at spd 2, non combat half movement for 8 hours day.
but how for boat? or for chariot? or...?

ty for answer

sorry... i was reading over FREd, and Ultimate Veichle
(i was searching for a formula to calculate overland movement based on actual run speed and SPD... :p )

I think it says it goes for something more realistic than basing it off of characteristics, tho you could always use those as a base time for a group with much higher speed/movement.

Some of the older edition stuff I've seen had long-distance movement rates based on REC, but I don't recall any details off the top of my head.

There are much more detailed and indepth discussions of medieval transport modes in an other thread on this forum.

(This is just for Captain Obvious, since he asked)

You determine 1/2 of your REC (rounded down) and this is the amount of REC you can burn without going into LTE (long term endurance).

Then, using that REC, figure out how much inches you can move in a turn at non-combat speed and at your speed. This assumes that you're not so burdened that you have to burn END for STR (25% lifting capacity or less). Otherwise, pay the END for the STR that you are using. Using half Recovery, you quickly find out that you can't carry a lot of stuff and move very quickly (compared to in combat). You can't take recoveries during this period, since you are already pacing yourself to avoid taking LTE.

Then convert those Inches/Turn into MPH (1.08/3 approximately).

It's extremely messy, but it's just number crunching.

That works quite well, Jogger, but it wasn't exactly what I was thinking of. This was basically a table of some sort with REC being the main determinant of how far a character can go in a day. I think it was in that Ancient Greek related thing that ICE put out.

But FWIW, Jogger's method is probably the way to go, since it's based on actual characteristics and isn't as abstracted as this table I'm thinking of, much less the Fantasy Hero tables.
