View Full Version : Your character's pet peeve(s)

Ok, this is simple (kinda) Does your character have a pet peeve and if so, what? Disads can be used, but try to be specific (see my example on Black Tiger) It can be villian peeves or general peeves. That said:
Volt Villians who hurt/kill children are a pet peeve - actually more than that; he gets furious. Outside of villian stuff he hates it when when people say "warsh" or "wursh" instead of "wash." (Things like Warshington DC also fall into this category.) Also - "It's 'library' Library, not 'lieberry'! What is that, some kind of berry? Sheesh, it's like you take the 'r' out of the library and put it into wash!" He's a calm person, but this gets him riled. On a calmer note, he also hates it when Christians say something incredably idiotic. "Things like that tend to cause some people to think in order to be a Christian you have to have your brain removed."
Olorin Tends to hate undead, especially the mindless ones. If they are intellegent and not evil, he can deal with them. He hates necromancers since "I have never since one that is not evil and quite destructive." On a non-villian note he hates people that are willfully ignortant "My mind is made up. Don't confuse me with the facts!" He also really gets ticked when people set themselves as authorities when they are just plain wrong.
Black Tiger Has a disad "distrusts authorities" He also especially hates the ones that go "I'm the highest ranking authority here! Therefore I'm in charge!"; the kind that is full of themselves and don't care if you are the expert and they have no clue. You have to prove yourself to him by treating him and your subordinates with respect and prove you know what you are doing; or are at least willing to learn from the experts.
Futurian - the man from the future. Having to do everything with "stone knives and bearskins". And yes, he uses that line a lot. He also dislikes people asking him about the future, and can get quite sarcastic about it or start using tenses in a confusing way to confuse the issue.

Zl'f: Her pet peeve is not being taken seriously because she's small (4' 9"), young-looking (She looks about 14 even though she's 25), or female.
GloryFox
Apr 23rd, '08, 04:58 PM
GloryFox - Socialists, and global warming based super hero's (however since I also find both of these annoying its hard to tell if I'm playing me or playing my favorite character. Perhaps a little bit of both.)
Spirit of Freedom - People who eat cake over pie and give presents then take them back. (Indian Givers since SoF is an Inuit) People who defile the land with garbage, toxic waste or who kill innocent animals for sport and not for food, clothing or shelter. Oil companies who steal land through legislation rather than negotiating in good faith with the people who occupy the land they want. People who call him an Indian instead of First Nations Citizen or Inuit.
The Grasshopper - martial Arts Super HERO's who can't hit the broad side of a barn, have no other super powers to compliment their martial arts and are basically useless. Martial Arts super villains who can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Sandor the Mystic: Unwise heroes, those who fight on their first phase, and seem to have no plan more complicated than Get'em!
White Knite: super heroes who have no idea how police work goes, no clue about the justice system...
Cosmo-Knite: anytime crime-fighting or missions interfere with watching NCIS.
yes he's got a TiVo, that's not the point, its the ritual....

It was a running joke in my character's team to tease my skilled normal archer type character the Marksman about how he kept in shape (that he used a Bowflex, etc...)

Apollyon: Reacting purely on emotion. This can be himself or anyone else.
Anyone with a pitchfork and/or torch, this normally accompanies cries of Demon or Hell Spawn. Also see judging by appearance.
People acting without a grasp of what they may be doing. For Apollyon and his circle of heroing this mostly revolves around cultists and the religious right.
Polyester Leisure Suits, don't ask.
Fallout: Pity parties, especially if he's the one throwing it.Fallout has not quite gotten over the complete loss of his physical body.
Amused
Apr 23rd, '08, 08:09 PM
Tamlyn - Mortals and their silly assumptions.
Lauren - Anyone treating her with condescion. And men who can't be controlled through bribery or sweet words. (she's getting over that last one, slowly, but surely. :) )
Hermit

Aquatic- Fanatics on any side. Girlfriends with something to prove ;)
Banner- Arrogant reporters (Besides himself, of course)
Gaze- Mentalists who are too cavalier in the use of their powers.
Mole- Being treated like a mark by other superheroes who should know better.
Stereo- Being looked down on. Anyone named 'Shaw' ;)

The Cat Without a Name: People who think they can name him. People who don't pay attention to him when he wants it. People who pay attention to him when he doesn't want it. His "servants" when he wants to communicate something crucial ("We're out of Tuna!"; "I want out!"; I want in!"; "Professor Vivisector just snuck into out airducts!", and so on) who ignore him. Keyboards with less-than-catspaw-sized keys. Ouija boards on a shelf or in a box so he can't reach it. Mice who think they're "all that". Anyone from "The Lab."
Bob Tiger: The way his Brother-in-law constantly oscillates between thinking BT is "EVIL!!" and thinking he's BT's best buddy. "Dude! You unleashed the Wild Hunt on me! We are so NOT going fishing together."
Thunder Rabbit: Villains (and even common criminals) who pull a caper where he can see (or hear) it while he's on a date. People who offer him a carrot. People who think he's cute (unless he thinks they're kinda cute, too).

Badger- any type of media. Leave him ALONE!!!
Frosty Bob- hmm, have to think on that. He is so shallow most annoyance just seem to bounce off him. An interruption when he is making a move on a hot chick I suppose. (Note: an interruption other than the Angry Female Strike, of course.)
oh and for both boy scout type supers get under their skin (They believe those types are unwilling to do what it takes to succeed in their goals.)

Arachne will agree with that one. Add to that, "Editorials written by the Publisher Emeritus of the Daily Bugle." Also, supervillains with stupid names and stupider costumes (like the ones that dress up like circus animals! I mean, "Rhino"? "The Vulture"? Come on!). :p
Stereo- Being looked down on. Anyone named 'Shaw' ;)
Charming.
Shaw's big pet peeve would be people who don't do as he says... and worse, people who are like, "You're not the boss of me!" Philistines and heathens, all of them. Obviously they need someone of intelligence and breeding to keep an eye on them. :king:

Ace: He's pretty easy going. I don't think he has any "pet peeves," except perhaps getting his clothes mussed.
Cat: Mainly comrades who think that powers are enough to get by on, dumb people (which would be, in her estimation, most of them), authority figures, country music, etc.
Holocaust: Random weird stuff. She doesn't like fast talking, rhymes or poetic language, impressionist art, bright colors, non-matching socks, liquor stores that close before midnight, being told she can't smoke where-ever she happens to be, sloppy handwriting, PC (rather than Mac) enthusiasts, animals, children, apples and apple-related products, and so on.
Dr Archeville
Apr 28th, '08, 07:27 AM
Herr Doktor Viktor Archeville, like any good Mad Scientist, really doesn't like torch- and pitchfork-wielding peasants. Not that that ever happens to him. He does get irked when people keep asking him to stop & and explain what he's doing (since they can't possibly comprehend it all), and is put off when folks turn down his offers to improve them. He's also not fond of magic or anything supernatural, since Science & Magic classically don't go along well, and because it's possible that magic (if real and not just some poorly understood Alien or Mutant power) is the reason his family is insane.
Deadhead is fairly easygoing, and doesn't really have any pet peeves. He has a true hatred of people who harm children, or who disturb the dead, but that's about it.

Luna Moth: Her two roommates (especially the crazy, Luna-Moth-adoring fan,) anyone who compares her to Foxbat, trigger-happy maniacs, and Super-heroic conspiracy nutjobs.
Flying Kittens: Anyone who looks down on them because they're 9.
- Trisk: Mushy, girly stuff (romances, kisses, etc.)
- Blackie: Trisk playing with her dolls, evil eye wards.
- Midnight: Trisk or Blackie playing with her models.

Phidippus has a very Silver-Age code: as such, he finds "heroes" who use excessive force, villains who endanger innocents, authority figures who abuse their positions, etc. very hard to stomach - I would hesitate to call those "pet peeves", since they kind of go with the territory he frequents.
Pet peeves a little more specific to him? People who judge a book by its cover, people who don't take responsibility for their own actions (eg. "I was just following orders!" will seriously tick him off), folks with no sense of humor who should otherwise have one, and hardcore, hysterical arachnophobes (if you don't like them, fine - but don't assume I want to suck out your innards either). Also, he guards his friendships with fanatical passion, having very few people he really feels close to. You mess with them (his surrogate family), and you can expect a world of hurt in very short order. (You should have seen when Interface nearly killed one of his teammates! Four consecutive rounds of pushing his STR - let me tell you, Interface weren't pretty no more...)

Magnetite: People who make fun of her height (she's 4' 11").
Onyx: Heroes who don't really act 'heroically'.
Wild Card: Closedmindedness; specifically, academics in the archaeological community who won't accept the existence of magic despite the fact that he's found and recovered a number of mystical artifacts himself.
Thunderstrike: When people still call him by the code name he used in his early career (Kid Thunder).
Jack Diamond: Villains who fail to learn from the first encounter that crime doesn't pay.
ColdFire: The fact that Meeb and Timestrike can both kick her butt on Halo 3. (Timestrike has exceptional reflexes, and Meeb isn't limited by the usual number of fingers/limbs.)
Morningstar: When her teammates call her 'Club Girl'.
Night Owl II: When his teammates call him 'Egg Boy'.
Desperado: His teammates (a proto-feminist psychic ex-housewife, a fallen angel, and an undead executioner).
Amethyst: Bobby Dare (a pet peeve that she shares with the rest of her team, as it turns out).

Iron Alloy: Anal about her archeology tools. Pet peeve is when overzealous interns and/or assistants mess with her stuff and try to 'reorganize' it in an effort to shine her apple.
Gina D.: When people won't listen to her about her Viper knowledge. Oh and asking her to toast marshmallows on a whim. She's not a portable propane tank!

Most of my characters Pet Peeves are usually authored by the GM. I recently asked out GM to lessen the body count among civilians by Supervillains or my Superhero may resort to "An Eye for An Eye, A Tooth for a Tooth, & A Life for a Life!"
I prefer Justice to Vengeance, but I am still human.

Deuce: Where do I begin?
-LOUD rock music
-Badly prepared meals (he's had simple meals with cheap ingredients that were excellent, and so-called "cordon bleu" meals that he assumes came from the wrong end of the kitchen, the one with the rubbish bins)
-Indifferent quality in anything
-People who make assumptions about old people as incompetent, or try to judge the past by excessively high standards of the present
-Losing when he knows the other guy/gal is cheating
-Members of a gender who think they can do everything the other gender can do (yep, it's sexist, he was born in 1922, whattaya gonna do?)
-Political correctness
-People who rely on technology for everything in their lives
-Enemy agents from his past who don't seem to realize the Cold War was over almost 20 years ago
-Directly threatening the world (and especially Britain) with imminent destruction

Deuce would absolutely, categorically, HATE Vixen. :)
Hate is such as strong word... Then again, there's a lot of people in the 21st Century Deuce dislikes. Such a soft era...so many people have grown lazy and dull. Sit around all day watching the TV or chatting people up on their cell phones or playing video games. Driving gigantic SUVs which isolate one's self from the world (not to mention the road.) And don't even get him started on what passes for "coffee" in this day and age...
At least there are still pretty girls, fast cars, and decent liquor. If you can handle the three.
Ah, but at least both Vixen and Deuce dislike...er..."stoners". Marijuana dulls the senses and reflexes, and being currently illegal, leads to violent criminal gang activity. (Boffins, on the other hand, are acceptable, if they're the right sort. So long as they can think on their feet every once in a while.)

Actually, Vixen only dislikes her stoner (and geek) teammates because it damages her cool-popular-cheerleader image. She simply can't be seen hanging around with the unpopular kids, people will talk.

That pretty well sums up 'The Rose.' Although he is coming to accept that they can't help that they don't have the superior breeding and upbringing that would allow them to know the proper way to react and behave. Other than that it would be people who are rude, I.E. interrupting him while he speeks, trying to have him 'set them up with the model.' I mean god he is a super hero not a way for you to hook up with those obviously out of your class.

Thinking about it more, another one for Vixen is people who make assumptions about her personality, interests, and abilities based solely off the fact that she's half Japanese aka stereotyping. Genetics are half-Japanese, culture is all American, and someday she's going to remark "You want me to act Japanese? Fine. Rick my lear end!"

Vitus is irritated by the way humans are everywhere. They seem to be the default setting for the bulk of realities he's visited, and he's getting very sick of it.

Seer--Verbal communication. It annoys him people seem suprised that verbal communication is inaccurate, or deceptive. Tepelathic from birth, he doesn't feel very committed to truthfulness when speaking..if you want truth, communicate mind to mind. He also is peeved by 'loud' emotional people, who cant keep their feelings in check and unconsciously broadcast their emotions over the area.
Hornet's pet peeve are those who cling to irrationality when it brings harm to others. If one wants to cling to inaccurate ideas, thoughts or prejudices, that is their choice, but when it brings harm to others, that ticks him off.
Also, having to back up and explain in 'small' words his most recent ideas to the rest of the worlds 'leading' scientists. the curse of the 45 INT.
Blaze When the bad guy doesnt put up a good fight, that ticks him off. He also gets peeved if they don't go down quickly. He gets peeved at those who insult him. He also gets peeved at the silent treatment. He gets peeved at spineless cretins. He also gets peeved at those silly enough to defy him.
Blaze gets angry a lot.

Tao: Humans and their inefficient, foolish and short sighted emotional natures and pointless talking in general.
Ivy: People that value appearances and style over substance, particularly in when it comes to important matters, grandstanding in general annoys her. She dislikes intellectual arrogance and snobbery in general. More banally, Voice mail, automated answering devices and anything else that tends to trigger "Telephone Tag" sends her blood pressure up.
Shidoku: Strangers that use terms of endearment to address her like "Honey, Baby, etc" She doesn't mind when friends or acquaintances do it or general terms like "woman, or dude". Guys that are too pushy in bed (a little aggression is fine...) , particularly those that assume since they were allowed access to certain things in the past they can just enter there without asking.
Eve: Doesn't like bullies or people that tease others for pleasure. People that won't share and think they are better than others because of possessions get on her nerves.
Velocity: "irregardless" and "I could care less" those phrases are like nails in a chalkboard for her. People that complain and complain but never DO anything about it drive her up the wall.
