Hello all,
I was wondering how you would build a boomerang that returns should the thrower miss?
I know that real boomerangs didn't return, but I'm looking for a fantasy thing here. :D

When you say "return if it misses," do you mean only if it misses, i.e. if it hits it doesn't return?
If that's the case I'd build it as EB or RKA with 1 Recoverable Charge, with the recovery condition being either the person has to go get it after it hits, or successfully catch it on the return arc if it misses. I'd either require a DEX roll (or whatever Skill you think is appropriate) to catch it; or if you catch it automatically, reduce the Limitation from the Recoverable Charge by one or two steps.

Boomerangs do return when thrown correctly- but not the ones most often used for hunting, they aren't shaped for returning.

Heh, yeah, I was referring to the non-toy ones. :)

Actual boomerangs do actually return to the user. Those used by Australian Aboriginals. The toys just improve on the idea :)
However - there are also straight flying boomerangs as well, that are heavier and used on bigger prey (ie kangaroos and emus).

Really? Well, cool. Then I don't have to console myself. Sweet.

The return flight of a boomerang is more than just recovering a charge, if you want to take it to the next level.
It qualifies as Indirect, if you think you're good enough to hit a target on the backflight.
Of course, there's the complication that to return, it has to have a lot of room to turn around in.

There are various types of traditional boomerang, ranging from light bird killing ones to kangaroo killing ones. The bird killers are designed to return, in part to get a second shot at a flock of birds.
Edit: Opps, someone beat me to it.

It's amazing what can be done with some fire hardened bits of wood, really :)
