I'm trying to make a clone of cannonball from the new mutants (X-force, X-men) Is his flight linked to his forcefield? or is his force field linked to flight? The way the early comics have it, they are linked so they must be used together, both or none.

The only example I could find was a 250- point version HERE (http://www.angelfire.com/scifi2/mathew/cscannonball2.html)
It has a elemental controll "Cannonball powers" with linked slots. But my 5th edition book says that slots in a EC can't be linked. Or sould this be some other framework? or no framework?
Depending on how the points go (or later) I would like to add a increase in strength linked to forcefield and a energy blast of redirected FF energy. Would that cause the flight and forcefield to drop for a second? Giving a "shields are down" (return of the jedi referance) monent of vaulnerablity? I like the idea but don't know how to do it.

Thanks:)

if you have just those 2 powers the don't use and EC
if you do
you could go
largest power outside say Flight
then link the EC to the outside power(Flight)

since Cannon Ball could hover you just need to have him alway flying
since he did develope a few modes of flying you might want to add a multipower of naked advantages to add to his flight

There is no point to linking them. Just get "forcefield, only when flying"

Whichever is the smaller points linked to the larger is the tradition (and gives the best value)

Flight 25" x4NC

Force field 20PD 20 ED Link: Flight -1/2

Is an oldy and a goodie.... and the Flight could go into a EC if you wanted.... the FF is "outside so no worrys. What does Cannonball do besides Flight and some Force feild?

Oh and Visable (Glowing trail, lots of noise) ans SE: Damaging to environment seem like naturals for the rocket power....

Long, long ago (over 10 years ago) we did a write-up for Cannonball for our X-Men Hero game. The attached file is an excel spreadsheet that has been converted into pdf format. This version is for the character as he was back in the early 1990s so he may have changed some since then. It is also a 4th Edition write-up and probably used some house rules. I know we used a house rule for STR but since he's not a brick that is probably not relevant. Hopefully it can be of some help to you.

The last time I paid attention to Marvel Comics and Cannonball, his Forcefield and Flight were indeed linked.

IIRC, his ability to extend his blast field into a ranged attack doesn't lower the field (in fact, he must have it up to use the blast).

His force field isn't liked to his flight, as he can use it without blasting off.

He can also use it to make force walls that can protect or englobe anyone near by.

He also has Kinetic Absorption that feeds his Hand Attack.

The write-up I posted was not made by me. I don't know the character well enough to even have a starting point. A couple of our players, who were much more knowledgeable of the character than me, did the write-up I posted. I believe it was Eosin and 1EyedJack who are both members of these forums. And again this was a version from the early 1990s or late 1980s, things have probably changed since then.

The main thing with a character like Cannonball is to decide which version of the character you are going to build.

Is he going to be the version from the early issues of New Mutants? Or is he going to be whatever atrocity he has become these days? Or is he going to be something in between?

It also helps a lot if you have the relevant source material available. Basing a character on secondary sources is fine, but you can't expect the result to be faithful to the original.

Not in the early days. I stopped reading comics about the time he figured out to expand his forcefield, in a battle with Shiar imperial guard "gladiator"(?)

Oh... I didn't realize you were shooting for a specific era...

I'm going to start with the beginning then work from there, maybe make a few changes later

I think I'm missing 2-3 issues of the New mutants first series. My sisters hampster got loose and ate my graphic novel. It really "jumped the shark" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jump_the_shark)IMO, when they introduced Cable.
