Boy would it make my life easier if the standard effect for a 1/2d6 was 2 points: you could then actually build any standard effect total you wanted. That would be great.
Anyone else feel the same?

Probably would be useful for that to be in the official rules; I'd allow it in my games.

This is what I do. Use the full dice equivalents and allow -1 do actually be -1. Which gives the same result as your ½d6=2.
It makes better sense with 1 DC (Killing) = 1 point of Standard Effect (SE) to give a smooth progression:
K-DC = SE . Damage
1 pip
½d6 or 1d6-1
1d6
1d6+1
2d6-1 or 1½d6
2d6
This is better than the official rules (H5e.72/H5er.104) of ½d6=+1 and -1 = 0 because it's more intuitively logical with ½ rounding up like normal math; and -1 is actually less than +0; and (most of all) it gives a smoother more granular progression where each point counts.
