Question: Weapons and Strength

The way I understand the use of weapons (briefly) is as follow:

Example

I have a hero with a Katana 1 1/2 D6 K, with STR min 12, and a STR of 22, which means if my hero does a regular strike with this weapon he would do 22-12 = 10
10 / 5 = +2 DC
1 1/2 D6 K + 2 DC = 2D6 + 1 Killing. Correct?

or would it be

22 / 5 = +4 DC
1 1/2 D6 K + 4 DC = 3D6 Killing?

or am I just completely wrong...

The first. In a Heroic Game the STR needed to meet the STR Minimum is not counted towards damage.
