I am new to the Hero System and I recently bought a copy of UMA 4ed.

What are the differences to the 5ed version?

Can I use the 4ed Book with 5 edition Hero System without complications.

To be honest, the differences are minimal. The organization of the two books is almost identical. The martial maneuvers are exactly the same, and the rules for building your own maneuvers haven't changed. The 5E weapons list has all the 4E items, with only a few additions. There are several new (for this collection) martial arts styles described and statted, but the ones from the 4E book haven't changed. There have been a very few modifications to the combat rules and martial arts Power builds reflecting the changes between editions, but if you own the 5E rulebook those would be easy to extrapolate. OTOH the 5E UMA lacks some of the campaign background material from 4E, such as the secret societies.

Even Steve Long has expressed his opinion here on the boards that if you already own UMA 4E, there's no pressing need to upgrade to 5E. Considering that a new UMA for Sixth Edition is tentatively scheduled for next year, and from Steve's remarks will probably have significant differences from its predecessors, you might be just as well off waiting for that.

The 5E UMA devotes more space to PC concepts, martial arts styles, and mechanics. A lot of the genre information was transfered over to the 5E Ninja Hero book, where it was expanded.
