View Full Version : How to Build: Cleanse the Planet

If the entire planet is covered with something, how would you get rid of it ?
Megascale Transform? or Dispel ? or Tranfer ? EDM ?
in this case, its a post-apocalyptic infestation of nanites
and their byproducts in the entire ecosystem,
but the question works for any number of grody scenarios,
such as pollution, chem warfare, germ warfare, terraforming, etc.

I'd say Transform. My logic is that Transform is typically what's used for an effect like a Purify Water/Food spell. This is similar, just on a much larger scale. Purify Ecosystem. :)

You don't need to megascale the solution if the solution is an adjustment power - targeting any part of the problem is sufficient: in other words you don't need an AoE dispel to get rid of an AoE effect.

Heh, I thought, 150d6 KA AoE should destroy the planet fairly well.

Zombie Virus: Major Transform 1d6 (reprogramed to follow new orders, total shut down and reboot), Reduced Endurance (1/2 END; +1/4), Uncontrolled (+1/2), NND ([Standard]; not being a computer driven device; +1), Continuous (+1) (56 Active Points)
plant enough end in it to do the jjob or change to 0 end if needed

NND ([Standard]; not being a computer driven device; +1)Technically, NND defenses are not supposed to be "negative" (such as lacking a defense, not being a particular thing, etc.) From 5ER page 265:
"Examples of defenses usually considered inappropriate include a lack of anything (for example, "lack of Resistant Defenses," "Lack of Mental Defense," or "not being a Dwarf")..."
To me, "not being a computer driven device" sounds pretty similar to "not being a Dwarf." :) Of course, the GM can certainly allow it anyway, just pointing out that it's not totally HERO System-approved(tm). ;)

A big enough mop can get rid of it. :D

One of the Grimoires (don't remember which) had a few "negative" defenses. "Not a worshiper of this god" I think was one of them.

Change Environment, Megascale (lots). It even has a "cleaning" example right there on the page!

Since I guess this nanite invasion is a one-off occasion, I think the solution to get rid of them should be a plot device rather than a detailed power.
I.e., the GM should say something like: "Professor Weiss-Ghuy thinks he can built a device to infect the nanites with a nanite virus. However, he needs a sample of unobtainium to make it work. You have to get it for him."

and yes, the powers should fire off 3 then 2 then 1.
RE: I think the solution to get rid of them should be a plot device

well the whole campaign is setting up the plot device,
plus the player in question is a big geek that won't be satisfied
with a non-technical answer.

Precisely!
That is the example I was looking up, to post to this thread, when I read your post. As the saying goes, "beaten to the punch". ;)
