Just wanted to find out if any Traveller fans out there had a favorite setting and why.

I chose Classic Traveller because it was the only version of Traveller I actually played. I bought the hardback book (The Traveller Book) when it came out in 1982 and supplemented it with all the tiny digest books.
I really liked playing the game, but I had no clue about the complex history. I just made up my own setting and nobody asked any questions.

classic era for the win, the other eras have all had interesting parts, but the little black books of CT still hold like a spell. I have about 85% of everythng for traveller up to GURPS traveller, and will still play CT over any other era. I will play any version of traveller that doesnt involve virus, I always thought it was mostly a bad idea

Yeah, the whole virus concept was crappy cyberfunk. The original books are still the bomb.

I liked the Traveller New Era setting - apart from Virus that is - a sort of interstellar post-apocalytic setting. I just wish they could have came up with a different method of casting down the civilisation

one of the biggest problems I always had with Virus was it spread too far too fast, thankfully most of the suicidal strains died out quickly, but the damage they did was flat out devastating.

IMTU the rebellion occured... but virus never happened. the various factions pounded each to other into the dark ages in about 1140, and the Long Night started again.

I think I like the Gurps setting the best. It keeps the setting from CT going. I like the idea of a monothic all powerful imperium in the galaxy, kind of keeps things familiar while still being interesting.

I didn't like the Virus idea as written (for most of the same reasons Shadowcat already mentioned) but I liked the concept and tweaked it a bit for my campaign.

It wasn't the reason for the collapse, but it was the straw that broke the camels back and then kicked everyone while they were down.

I just liked the idea of explorers entering abandoned ships and bases and not knowing if it was going to come to life and try and kill them in devious ways. Kind of like Deus and the whole Renraku situation from Shadowrun.

I voted for Classic Traveller, of course. While I did write a couple of articles for Travellers Digest for the MegaTraveller setting, I've always been a fan of the classic setting -- specifically the Spinward Marches. I have run a campaign about former Solomani types adjusting to life under the Impies after the Solomani Rim War, and my best campaign was about an attempt to prevent the assassination of Strephon via a desperate attempt at time travel. I'm trying to get another campaign put together for the fall, which will probably be back in the Spinward Marches. Now all I need is a good hook for an epic storyline...

I liked the pre Rebellion era TRAVELLER .
But I tend to homebrew alot as well.

I'm in the "classic traveller because its the only version I ever played" camp.

I voted CT as well. However, GURPS traveller really is CT with a different system so if I could I would vote for that as well.

The Middle one? I only had one Traveller book and that was MegaTraveller. I don't recall much in the way of setting information.

Can I vote Star Frontiers? :angst:
