I am recruiting players for Star Hero campaign set in the Terran Empire universe. The campaign would meet two nights a month on dates to be determined later.
The campaign which I am christening "Dead Lawyers, Guns and Money" (DLG&M) begins in the year 2684. This is the third year of the reign of the cruel and incompetent Emperor
Sigismund. While thought by many to be nothing more than a crude sadist, Sigismund is actually a very sophisticated sadist. He can derive equal pleasure from casually destroying a man's life work as pulverizing his hands with a hammer as the sculpter Saron would willingly attest.
The sad truth though is that many in the empire would willingly forgive Sigismund his cruelities were he but an able administrator and protector of the empire. Unfortunately,
he is not. Being lazy by nature and only moderately bright, Sigismund considers people who are either overly industrious or intelligent as potential threats. This fact more than any real acts of treason being why General Piaget was tried and executed for treason mere monthes after repelling a Thorgon incursion into Terran space.
Sigismund's abuses and those of emperors who proceeded him have lead to a number of rebel movements particularly in those parts of the empire farthest from the Thorgon and Ackalian borders. Since the execution of General Piaget the seeds of rebellion have taken root even in those regions where the fear of alien powers is strongest. Many in the frontiers now fear that the Imperial Army and Navy will be unable to protect them soon due the purging of their most capable officers.
Lest one be too quick to throw one's hopes behind one of the rebel factions, it is only necessary to note that the different factions can agree on nothing and seem as willing
to fight each other as fight imperial forces. Even were this not the case, the Thorgons and Ackalians will almost certainly invade the moment it becomes apparent the TE is in full rebelion. A full rebelion that seems more inevitable by the day as Sigismund replaces good and just governors and commanders with ones that more suit his way of thinking.
Some citizens of the Terran empire each day pray for a nice swift coup. One that will replace Sigismund with a more just and capable ruler too quickly for the Thorgons, Ackalians or even the crafty Varanyi to take advantage of the situation. Unfortunately, thwarting plots against him is the one area which Sigismund does not seem to be incompetent.
So who will save the Terran Empire and indeed the human race from this vile tyrant and the enemy forces at its doorstep? Well it doesn't need to be your characters. While
your characters are certainly free to throw your abilities behind one of the rebel factions or attempt to facilitate a benign coup, they certainly don't have to do so. They
are perfectly free to make their fortunes selling guns to the rebels and then turning around and selling the rebels out to the Terran Intelligence Command. Just make sure to bank your profits in the more secure Conjoined Civilizations so that you have a place to flee to when the Terran Empire falls to an outside power.
So is anyone interested?
