View Full Version : Rules Question: END cost for Defender

In the combat example in Sidekick, in the first post-segment 12 Recovery time, it states that Defender has used 6 END, but I can only account for 4 END (from his Boot-Jets). Unless he used another 2 END in breaking through the skylight? I still don't quite understand END cost, how and when to calculate it...

Thanks

It's just not stating the explicit use of Casual STR to break the skylight. I'm guessing that he's only paying END for the effective STR used (20 or +2 END).

from Hero System 5th Edition, Revised ■ Chapter Two pge 423

Casual Strength
A character’s Casual STR equals half of his normal STR. He may use Casual STR as a Zero Phase Action to push past or smash through obstacles while moving, break free from Entangles and Grabs, and the like. However, Casual STR may never be used to attack another character or cause damage to him.

Casual STR costs END to use, but a character only has to pay END for his STR once per Phase, no matter how many different things he does with it in that Phase. For example, a character could use Casual STR to break free from an Entangle, use it again to smash through an obstacle, and then punch someone with his full STR, and he only pays END for his STR once.

Something's wrong with the forum - it gave one unchallenged answer. There must be a kink in the Disagreement Line.

I'll look into that and get back to you, Hugh.

Thanks, Thia.

This looks like a classic opportunity to employ the "If you can't fix it, feature it" maxim.

Upon further research I have been able to conclude that this particular thread is buggy; clearly, were this thread operating normally, it would be 20 replies long by now and have swiftly degenerated into a discussion on layout, blue lines, and whether Defender should even be paying END for his jet boots in the first place. We apologize for the inconvenience, but a patch is in the works.

Shouldn't his jet boots be built with charges? I mean, it's the boots that are flying right?

(There, will that help?)

Allow me to suggest Transform and/or Extradimensional Movement, because no one else has done so.

LOL, thanks Chris, we really dropped the ball on this one. How could we forget EDM.

I think we should Transform the target to grant him EDM. May as well use both!

That's a ridiculous solution. OBVIOUSLY you want to move him to a new dimension, where he has Transform. Sheesh, Hugh.
