Please at least consider:

1) If you have a way of knowing about it that far in advance, please give folks at least 24-hour head's-up (36 hours would be better) before Locking the threads in the forum.

2) Leave one new thread open for "last-minute thoughts," explicitly limiting discussion to things that weren't brought up in the original threads. (Everything that needs to be said about STR, COM, Figured Characteristics, Elemental Controls, Killing Damage, and every other "big" issue has already been said by now anyway.) After you're done with your draft, you can then go through that thread to see if anyone came up with any nice golden nuggets.

2) Leave one new thread open for "last-minute thoughts," explicitly limiting discussion to things that weren't brought up in the original threads. It's up to Steve obviously, but I don't think this is feasible at all. People would post whatever they wanted to in it. There are thousands of posts in the original threads. No one who wasn't deeply involved in those threads is going is going to go sift through them to determine whether a given point was raised or not. They'd just go ahead and post their thought in the Last-Minute Thoughts thread, "just in case" no one had brought it up before. And then there'd be discussion about their thoughts, etc. etc.

I'm with Bob on point 1, but I have to concur with Derek's reasoning re point 2.

Do people really need a warning that the threads are going to close? They've had over a year to post their comments.

You're so right. It would be shame to miss that. :D

1. I've said for two straight weeks in a row in my weekly news posts that if you have any final comments to make, better make 'em fast. As far as I'm concerned, that's plenty of notice for threads that have been open for nearly 15 months. ;) If you want more notice, consider this your notice: post as soon as you can, lest tomorrow ye find the threads locked.

2. Sorry, but the last thing I want to do is leave any threads open. Once I start reading I need to lock the conversation then and there; it gets too difficult to keep track of things otherwise. Again, we've allowed about 15 months' worth of discussion on these points, and if that's not enough for any interested party to have had his say, I doubt leaving an open thread or threads is likely to help much. ;)

Wow, I can't believe it has been 15 months since the announcement of 6th Edition. This last year and a bit have flown by!
