Ben, not that this isn't good news for those Hero gamers not blessed with a decent FLGS, but... I thought it was company policy to keep the new books out of the store for several months after initial release so the retailers could have their turn first. Has the policy changed, or was I just in an alternate universe for the past year?

I think the lag time is 1 month.

Yeah, back in May they changed it to one month after release.

We changed it to one month because we asked the retailers, and they said, "We appreciate the consideration, but one month is plenty." Since they don't care, we don't care, and they go up after a month.

Besides, they want to get them sold before the shelves break. :)

We asked in the most common means by which manufacturers interact with lots of retailers -- the Game Industry Forum, a closed message board. Short of spending thousands of dollars to conduct a true survey, it's as good as we can do, and the retailers on the GIF unanimously said a month was plenty. So, that's good enough for us. ;)

Personally, the change to one month pleases me to no end, since the distibutors my LGS use are erratic, to say the least. Delays of anything between 3 months and a year after publication aren't uncommon, except for d20 stuff which seems to magically appear on the shelves within a week or two.

Plus, being able to buy damaged stock at a discount is a real boon for someone like myself whose wallet is sadly deflated these days.
