Major Error, cannot install HD

the error i get is "This directory cannot be written! Please choose another directory!" how do i get around this?

That sounds like a Vista security issue but I'm not sure (I don't use Vista).

I had the same problem. For some reason, HD won't install where it automatically wants to. I got around it by installing HD in my Documents folder.

It's called UAC (user access control) - a security "feature" in vista that prevents you from writing to the program files directory. As stated, if you change to a directory that you have full access to, HD will install without issue.

I just installed it to my thumb drive. Solves the UAC issue AND gives you the advantage of portability.
