I've shown the new version to several friends and they all mentioned that it would be nice if there was a money entry on the equipment tab.

While Custome power can be easily used, I pointed out, they felt that a true entry would be quite nice.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're looking for here...

Any piece of Equipment purchased has a field where you can fill in the cost....I'll be making export tags available for the cost of individual pieces of equipment as well as for overall cost of all equipment purchased.

Can you be more specific in what you're looking for?

They were thinking of a place in the equipment to keep track of how much Gold, Silver whatever you have found and your characters has.

I mentioned that they could simple pick custom power the edit it to say Gold -100 pieces or whatever.

They just thought it would be nice if there was a slot at the top of the list, demanding at they, that one could keep track of their money

Well...as you said....a Custom Power works just fine for that.

If they want, they can use the field "Max Total Value in Equipment" under the Campaign Rules screen to reflect the same information. This would also allow HD to warn/notify them if they attempted to buy too much equipment (cost-wise).
