View Full Version : Long Lost Player in Montreal

Once upon a time in a distant land known as Montreal there lived a gamer, that would be me, utterly fanatic about the supremacy of the Hero System. I was willing to concede that it was perhaps not for everyone. There are after all casual gamers who do not wish to invest time in reading books or actually learning a game system. The ones I could not understand were those who did take the time to read rulebooks and understand systems, and who did not know about the Hero System. I would do my best to convert them. And I never did understand how anyone once exposed to the magnificence of the Hero System could possibly reject it. My fervor was downright religious! (Ok, maybe I exaggerate just a little bit, but only a bit.)
Time took it's toll on me and I ultimately stopped playing table top. That was fifteen years ago. (My love for Hero started a couple months after the publication of 1st edition Champions.) Recently my yearn for some social interaction has returned to me, and with it, my yearn to play (with human beings!) my beloved game.
Are there any Hero System gamers in Montreal? I much prefer Fantasy Hero, but I am a beggar and cannot be a chooser.

I have recently found a group, a small group, and we could use another person (or two). So I am still looking.
(De Parler la Français sera très utile.)

Doh! I didn't see this response. (TSandman and I did exchange PMs however.)
In case any other Montrealers are reading this, the game currently is every second weekend in the Plateau/Downtown area.

It's clearly indicated on each of my post (profile bit) but I admit I wasn't posting a lot :)
I gathered there was some Hero players in Montreal, because neither the Valet or the Donjon were stocking all those books for my sole usage :p

Ben oui, toi.
(Sorry folks, quebeckers' stuff... it had to be said in french!)

I'm currently working on convert^H^H^H^H^H^H getting my gaming group to use HERO
:)
some are thrilled, others not... but since they can build the character they want (well, within limits) most are ok with it. We'll be playing in the Iron Kingdom settings, so I have a ton of work to do before starting playing and I do *NOT* find it easy :/ Last time I've played HERO was in what.. '89? building stuff up doesn't comes as easily to me as for some others...
Anyway... If this experiment is a success, they'll be about 8-9 new Hero players here in Mtl :)

It was a lot of work getting myself back up to speed with the mechanics of the game. I still have a ways to go with a lot of the powers and the way they are handled. I am constantly referring to the PDFs. (I'm still waiting for the books to show up in the mail.)
For your reluctant players, have them describe a character concept to you, and build the character for them. Make the build a really cute one, with lots of little bells and whistles they can play with maybe. Of course also allow them to make changes on their own if they desire, which might stimulate them to learn more of the system. Let me know if you want help with that, as building characters is my favorite part of Hero.
And Montreal could certainly use more Hero players. :)

Well... I've received my Physical books two weeks ago and I'm just begining reading Book 2...
Already 5 players have given me their basic concept... and since one is a Mage... I've got to run through the Grimoire and validate/convert many spells for 6th :(
The rest of the Iron Kingdom conversion that I have to do is relatively easy to do (Firearms, SteamJacks, etc) except for the Monsters (They've put out two complete Monsternomicons ;P)
As I read/convert stuff, I'm starting to GET IT...

Are you guys still looking for players? What's the status of your campaign?
Nucleon feels like returning to a good game after a long break, and you be interested/enthusiasted in finding a new playing group.

I started a game (the only one willing and able to GM at the time), but after a couple of months it fell apart due to scheduling conflicts. (And I expect that my lack of enthusiasm for GMing played a part in that.) I do not consider myself to be a good GM (I don't prepare adequately) and would rather not GM. I am open to other game ideas and might be able to hook a few of the players in my previous aborted attempt at a game.

That would definitely be an interesting idea. I am quite comfortable with GMing (in fact that's what I do most of the time, althought I also like to play), and more importantly, I am not working on any campaigns right now.
Do you think we should arrange something for the fall? Please PM if you think so.
