View Full Version : Stacking Advantages

I have this concept for a power for a novice sonic user. She has a hard time focusing her power into a sonic "beam", and has a layered area of effect "leaking" of her power. I envision a Beam attack with an Area Effect Radius stacked on an Area Effect Cone stacked on an Area Effect Line. Can you have multiples of the same Advantage like this on a single Power? I know that I could always do this as a Compound Power, but then the overlapping areas have huge values for damage, and the cost goes way up, so I'd prefer the stacking option, if allowable.

First off, if you mean the Beam Limitation (and I'm assuming you do since you capitalized it), the power can't have the Area Of Effect Advantage in any form (per 6E1 145).

If by "Beam" you simply meant a Blast, or a beam in the generic sense, then I'm not entirely sure I understand from your description what it is that you want. There are certainly situations where the same Advantage can be applied multiple times to the same power to take advantage of different effects (see, e.g., Khelred's Flammifer in the FHG), but since I'm not sure what you're trying to do I can't tell if this is one of them. Based on what I can glean, I'd suggest building the power as a Multipower with several slots -- one "focused" slot (no Area Of Effect) and one slot for each different form of Area Of Effect the character might try to use. Then put a Required Roll on the reserve. If the roll succeeds, the character can use whichever slot he wants, if it fails the GM rolls randomly to determine which one he uses.

If that doesn't work for you, I suggest posting on the Discussion board so other folx can offer ideas and suss out exactly what will get you where you want to be. ;)
