A major point of disagreement in 5E rules is on healing. Our GM states that "I think Mr Long was really trying to eliminate healing mid-combat" because he believes that a healing spell should require 1) an activation roll, 2) an attack roll, and finally 3) an amount roll. I agree fully with the activation roll, but disagree with the attack roll. Healers normally wont have a high OCV value and would make it very difficult for them to effectively heal in the middle of battle when trying to "attack" a team mate with a very high DCV. I also made the point that (in other game terms) the player receiving the healing could voluntarily fail his saving throw. Bottom line is this. 1) Do casters need to make an attack roll to heal another player (is healing an attack action (meaning that it ends your turn) or an attack(meaning you have to roll OCV vs DCV)) and 2) are you trying to eliminate healing mid-combat?

Insofar as this question gets into game design/philosophy or my own personal motivations -- sorry, I don't answer questions like that.

As for the rules question -- the 5ER rules state: "Using Healing constitutes an Attack Action and requires an Attack Roll[.] The GM may dispense with the Attack Roll in the case of a willing subject if he prefers."
