Where are the rules files being saved?

So I open a character I've created using a template. The rules I am using are embedded in the template. I want to apply those rules to a different template. So I view the rules within the character and save them to a file name. But when I go to the folder where I've saved all this stuff the rules file isn't there. If I look under the character from where I just saved the rules its listed as being in that directory but the file doesn't appear in the directory itself. So where is the darn file? Is it saved within one of the files, such as the template or the character? If not where is it? If so how do I save it to a different file so I can apply it to a different template?

Apparently I am blind. Teach me to post questions like this when frustrated by computer problems. For some reason the view of the directory in question was not refreshing. All seems as it should be now.
