I am having trouble downloading the export templates. They download in a form that the hero designer export function does not recognize them.

Check the file extension, likely your browser is adding an extra extesion like TXT or ZIP to the end of them instead of the HDE that they're supposed to have.

g-a's got it....except your browser is likely adding a .xml extension to the file (they like to think that they're being smart and helpful).

Change it to .hde and you're in business.

For some reason, when I try to preview the character or otherwise select an export template, the hero designer program does not recognize any of the export templates I have downloaded, whether with .hde file formats or otherwise. Any clue what is going on?

Yes -- they don't have a ".hde" file extension.

They _ONLY_ filtering that HD performs when deciding what export formats to show when looking at a given directory is to check the file extension.

Thanks. I got it to work.

Do you just right click and select download? When I click stuff there it pulls up a (to me) page of gibberish.

Yes, Right-Click and select Save As.

Where do I save these things to?

Wherever you want. Normally wherever you keep your other Export Templates.

Theres no specific folder in hero designer that I need to target for this or any other download?

It may help if you read through the documentation a bit.

Export templates can be saved anywhere you like -- you browse to the directory when selecting one.

Character files, templates, prefabs can likewise be saved anywhere you like.

The update file needs to be saved according to the directions on the update page.

I did look at the documentation under the help tab. It pulls up a 33 page .pdf, I believe. Perhaps a more thorough perusal is required. I did look under prefabs, Export templates and updating and found no references to the specifics that the fine people here have proffered. Again, I thank you.
