Thanks John... now have all of the 6E rulebooks in hard copy and PDF... and even though I don't like reading PDFs, it sure is nice to have the computer do the searching then read in the book at my leisure...

By the way, this deal lasts through January 7th...

Doesn't this reek of PDF piracy? If a HERO primary comes on and greenlights this, I would be interested. Otherwise I'll keep back filling my 5th Ed until I can get the APG at Pegasaurus Games.

Um... considering the legitimacy of Drive Thru and that Hero Games has been selling their PDFs through them for years now - no it does not reek of piracy.

Per the verbiage on Drive Thru RPG's site this sale was sanctioned by the different manufacturers... there are 20+ $10.00 deals for various systems...

In Hero's case, I think it is a good marketing ploy... someone gets a look at the basic rules and also a taste of how far the system can go for a low price... hopefully triggering the purchase of the two core books...

And I just bought my PDF of the APG from the Hero Store last weekend or so...

That's a great price. It's just too bad I already own them both! Sigh.

Well I took advantage of it. Some interesting stuff in the APG. Need to take a good once over on the Basic Rulebook to see if I want to build exclusively around a cheap, easy to get into book like that.

I took advantage of it also (my hardcopies are borrowed and will eventually have to be returned to their true owner), but I must admit I felt darned guilty about it. I was clearly not the intended audience for the special, which was clearly aimed at new customers unfamilair with Hero.

I hope that when these customers buy their 6e PDFs that they visit the Hero store, but I'm not sure they'll do that.

By the way, is there a APG pack planned for Hero Designer?

I had just picked up the APG a few days ago at a local* retailer, and this deal was still going on, so I also took advantage of it. I'll most likely order a Basic rulebook from Hero later for player use anyway, and the ability to re-download files (from Hero's store) will probably mean that I'll get the PDF again, as well.

*Local, in this case, meant within a mile of my dentist, who is about 15 miles away from me. There aren't really any good gaming stores that I've found on my side of the Vegas Valley.

What exactly is in these books? I've been out of the loop...

The APG contains rules that didn't make it into the Core Set, as well as aids in interpreting the current rules. There is a two-page table of the commonness or lack of same of a multitude of attack types and SFX, for example.

The Basic Rulebook is the euqivalent of 5e's Sidekick -- a trimmed-down yet functional version of the 6e rules.

Thanks Mike.

So, with this bundle, how much of the 6th ed core rules would one be missing?

Thanks Mike.

So, with this bundle, how much of the 6th ed core rules would one be missing? The HERO Basic Rulebook is missing quite a bit. You can run HERO with it because the basic Skill resolution and Combat rules are the same. It is missing many Powers and Power Modifiers. It also excludes rules for creating Vehicles and Bases. Of all, the only thing I am really truly turned off about is the lack of Summon. It is such an important Power and much more generally useful than say, FTL (which is included).

The APG does not have any core rules, being an exploration of changing those core rules to further toolkit your game. There are some useful bits, but nothing you need to play.
