...Any good Old West resources out there on the Web at all...? Got a request from my gaming group to put together a cowboy campaign after we all saw Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven the other day...

What kind of stuff are you looking for?

There are a number of organizations supporting reinactors that may be good for equipment etc. Historical sites should be fairly easy to find as well, for these you could try searching Dodge City, Kansas, Tombstone and Bisbee, Arizona, Lincoln, New Mexico, Virginia City, Nevada for a start, all have strong ties to the old west and still use their history to draw in Tourists.

You might try searching for Boot hill (a game by TSR) sites for game ideas. I also see Western Hero on ebay fairly often at reasonable prices, if you don't have it I would highly recommend it, it was for 4th ed Hero but should work fine with the 5th ed. Boothill, Gunslinger, GURPS Old West (I think thats the title) would also probably be worth searching for.

Here are a few to start with

I would also suggest Western HERO. I own it, and I thought it was pretty well done.

You could also go to the History channel or PBS. They sometimes have documentaries on the Old West. 'Course, the Western Era was the most interesting period that really didn't exist. Most of the stuff that was really interesting was turned into mythology by movies, books, and other media.

There are some great write-ups in the old Adventurer's Quarterly magazine that included The Lone Ranger, Tonto, The Man With No Name(Clint Eastwood), and Kwai Chang Caine(Kung Fu). The American Indian Shaman magics stuff was also good. Somebody out there still have it? Help a HERO brother in Sweden out!

Hi, gang. I know I'm late chiming in on this but...

There's also the Western channel, available through some cable providers. They run a lot of great Western movies and TV shows (including Gunsmoke and Hoppalong Cassidy). Good inspiration for adventures and characters in any Western game. :)

We're also working on Gunslingers (http://www.goldrushgames.com/gunslingers.html) for release in January. We're going to be looking for playtesters/proofers for it soon, too. Not specifically for HERO System, but the stats could be easily enough converted to HERO if one wanted. We could also post HERO System conversons on our web site after it's released. Hm...
