Dan,
Have you looked lately to see if there is a way to do a direct export from HD to a PDF file. I tried making a PDF export template last year, but had little luck.

I don't do PDF, so I really can't say.
I _believe_ (perhaps mistakenly) that the PDF format is largely text-based, which means that it is possible to create an export template which writes PDF. The main issue that I'm aware of is that images would need to be embedded in the PDF file itself. This isn't a terribly huge issue...I can handle that with a custom export tag...but I'm waiting to create those tags until someone decides to tackle a PDF export template and lets me know what they need.

Most PDF programs save at least parts of a pdf file in a binary format. I think you can write one by hand, but I can not find documentation on how to do so.

Check Adobe's site...they have docs up there somewhere on it....or at least, they used to.
To my knowledge, the binary parts of the PDF file are normally images and other such data. I can have HD insert that information into the file....but (as stated) I'd like to wait on that until someone actually needs it so that I can make it work the way they need.

Should be feasible. There are quite a few tools for turning postscript to pdf, etc... Shouldn't be much harder than the RTF export. :)

You could always look into making a postscript filter, just a small jump there to pdf.
