I am designing an NPC who PD/ED/Damage Negation is based on the idea of him being able to dodge out of the way of the blunt of an attack. Which may mean he might take no damage or only softening the blow slightly by moving out of the way or somewhere in between. The problem where this concept falls apart is with AVAD. Say you have an opponent with gun that fires a Modulated Energy Beam that the only defense is ED that cost energy. Suddenly his ability to avoid the attack with his defense disappears. So how would you as a GM describe the effect of the AVAD vs his concept (for no concept should give anybody a blank slate for avoiding an AVAD/NND)?

Just thought of it. It is a little cheesy but Desolid vs nnd with and activation roll. At the very least it would lessen how often it will come up.

I'm not seeing the problem. Damage Negation works against AVAD attacks, so it seems ideal for this style of defense. The SFX is that the character, dodging at the last instant, got all (or mostly) out of the path of the beam.

Also remember that Damage Negation reduces Damage Classes, not dice. Don't reduce attacks more than is warranted.
