View Full Version : Yet Again: Please Help Name My Character

Gideon
Mar 2nd, '10, 07:27 PM
I just made a new character for a champions game. He has radio wave projection/control powers.
He's a very basic character, but for the life of me I can't come up with a name for him.

My only restrictions are:

The character is an American male adult.
The character cannot be named Airwave.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you describe his /hers Powers ?
Maybe we get a Idea then.

The character has radio wave projection/ manipulation/detection powers. He is built as a very standard very vanilla FEP.

Flight
Resistant Protection: Force Field
Blast (high intensity radio wave emissions, AKA microwaves)
Flash to Radio and Hearing (radio feedback)
Darkness to Radio
HRRP
Radar

I'm not sure if there's anything else I can tell you that would help. The character got his powers by accident, and has very little understanding of them beyond the basics.

Jinn

In mythology, Jinns are beings of smokeless fire (as opposed to angels who are beings of light). Smokeless fire sounds like infrared radiation (microwaves) to me.

A lot of good ones on here; the only one I can think of to add is On-Air.

Out of curiosity, why not Airwave? Too common or is there a hero/villain in your game universe with that name already?

Heterodyne. Though you'll get asked if you are related to Agatha a lot.

I like Frequency. Thats a good choice for a name.

If we are going for a more music theme to the name, maybe Hymn or Crescendo. Stereo and Amp would be good for a more hip sounding name.

My GM asked me not to. Thats the basics of it.

He prefers people to not use the names of existing characters (IE Airwave is from DC) for characters with the same power set.

Everyone, thanks again for the help. The suggestions were all very helpful.

I will post again once I have decided on something.

Well, if you insist on having his name be related to his powers, you could call him Radio Racer. (Having the word Radio in his name does make him sound Golden Age--in what era is the campaign set?)

Myself, I'd be inclined to go a different (yet also traditional) direction. Use some sort of title or noun coupled with an energetic adjective--perhaps suggested by accident. For example--

"Wow! Look at how you blasted those bank robbers! That's some power you've got there, man!"

"That's it! I'll call myself--POWER-MAN!"

Or--

"Wow! What you can do is nothing short of amazing!"

"Then say hello to--MR. AMAZING!"

(Myself, I'd prefer CAPTAIN AMAZING or AMAZING MAN--but both those names have been taken, and in the latter case, taken at least twice. Perhaps your GM could still allow it.)

And one more--

"Wow! Look at me streak across the sky. Wait--that's it! I'll call myself--SKYSTREAK!"

I think you get the idea by now. Hope that helps.

He prefers people to not use the names of existing characters (IE Airwave is from DC) for characters with the same power set.So, as it's a different power set, Feedback would be acceptable? (It's been used at least twice that I'm aware of -- once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feedback_%28Marvel_Comics%29) in Marvel Comics, and once (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feedback_%28Dark_Horse_Comics%29) on "Who Wants to Be a Superhero?")

Yes, and it has been done in his game. For example, there is a character named Wildcat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildcatter), who has crude oil projection powers.

Sorry, things have been a bit hectic and haven't started playing yet. I've hemming and hawing over the suggestions I like, not making a final decision. And since the game isn't imminent yet, its been made that much easier to put off.

Don't worry though, as soon as I've decided I'll post the character's name. I may even post the character (I haven't decided that part yet either.)

I had a character named Powersurge with similar powers + electricity. I had another sonic based character named Master Blaster. You are welcome to either of them...

Make your character a Transformers fan and call him Allspark.

If he's a little headstrong you can call him Blitzkrieg.

Could be a garage band hero from the heartland and call him Amplifier, or Amp for short.

Might I suggest one of the following?

Radar Range (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radarange)r

Superheterodyne (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superheterodyne)

Magnetron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetron)

Modulator (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modulator)

Klystron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klystron)

or

Sorry that this reply took so long. The game this character was meant for was put on hold for almost a month, so I procrastinated for a while.

I did finally make a decision, though. And while its not something exactly suggested by anyone, it was inspired by what people posted.

My radio-wave projector character is...

Signal

The closest was casualplayer with "Signalman". Don Pardo, tell 'im what he's won!

"All right, Bob! I hope casualplayer is hungry, because he's won a year's supply of Rice-a-Roni, the San Francisco treat!"

"My name is casualplayer and I am not smarter than a fifth grader."

Just flew out of San Fran yesterday. Boudin sourdough bread, Gallo hard salami, no Rice-a-Roni but I love the stuff. Keep it coming!

Thanks again guys. You were all a big help.

Hey, if anyone is interested I'd be willing to post a copy of the character for people to peruse. I warn you though, he's built kinda strangely.
