View Full Version : Combat Record Export Template

Here's a combat record template I whipped up to test the SPD chart. (Remove the extra ".txt" from the end when you save it, and save it where the rest of the export templates are.)

This throws an odd error message: tmp/1063847446538.HTM is a directory. Sure enough, it is a directory, with nothing in it.
Running 2.0.27 w/ Sun's j2sdk 1.4.2_01 on Linux.

Check the permissions on that directory...sounds like you may not have write-access to it.

Both HeroDesigner/temp and HeroDesigner/temp/[randomnumbers].HTM are mode 700. Is this really supposed to be a directory, not an HTML file?

700 sounds like the problem. Who's the owner of the directory, and what user is the HD process running as?
Try changing it (temporarily) to 777 and see whta happens.
This sounds like a file permissions problem on your end....there's nothing that HD can (or should) do about that....

The directories do not exist until I try to preview or export a combat record sheet. When I do, HD creates a directory with a random name and a .HTM extension. So, I can't change the permissions beforehand; the directory does not exist until the problem appears.
700 is correct. It means I have full read, write and execute permissions within that directory. I'm just not sure that temp/[randomstring].HTM is supposed to be a directory. Compare with character sheet preview or export, which creates a file, not a directory, with a similar random name and .HTM extension.

Finally got those nasty worms under control at work...
I just tried out the lastest version, awesome job Dan.
However, I'm having a problem with the Combat record export as well. Has this been fixed, or a different template been made available that I missed?

What problem are you having? It's working fine when I try it (both preview and export)

Hmmm... Well, it is working for me now, but it isn't sorting by anything other than first name.
I must have done something wrong the last time I tried it.

What are you selecting for the sort options? It's been sorting fine for me whenever I've tested it (I generally sort by DEX and then by SPD, both descending).

Then you're going to need to post an example....the character files, the settings used, and the output. Like I said, it's working fine when I try it....Geoff was having a problem with the secondary sort order, but that's been fixed (several versions ago).

Nah, I don't think I will, but thanks for at least looking into it. I'll wait for another update. Maybe it will fix itself then as it usually does.

I also noticed a sort problems (DEX then SPD, both descending) with 2.032a; as soon as I can work out a good test case I'll send it along.

There's something screwy going on for sure.
After having done a lot of editing (entering MMM playtest monsters), I decided to test this template. I entered four characters, making only the changes listed below to the superheroic default (I changed name, DEX, and SPD):
Character A: DEX 20, SPD 5
Character B: DEX 20, SPD 4
Character C: DEX 15, SPD 5
Character D: DEX 15, SPD 4
I then did a combat record preview. Unfortunately, I didn't save it, but the order was D, A, B, C, and the DEX values were 10 and 15 instead of 20 and 15.
I shut down HD, restarted, recreated these characters, and the combat record looks fine.
Dan, I would recommend testing after you do a bunch of other stuff to see if you get different results. I'll be doing the same (and saving it this time!)

I also noticed this, though I didn't restart the application to see if it cleared out.
My characters had DEX 18, 14, 14, 14 -- one of the 14's displayed correctly, and all of the rest were 10's. This was the first time that I loaded the template, or tried this.

Dan, I have just two characters in my combat export. I am displaying DEX_TOTAL and SPD_TOTAL in the export. The first character has DEX of 10/20 and SPD of 2/4. Second character is DEX of 20 and SPD of 4.
In the export, regardless of how I sort, they come out wrong and the combat record export depends on which character I have open. Whenever I export characters that don't have different primary and secondary stats, the export works fine.
I can post some more concrete examples include HDC, HCR, and trace.log files if that would help.

Finally managed to track this one down.
The problem has been fixed....there will likely be a new update coming out with the fix in another day or two.
