Ecology: No one is entirely sure where these things came from, though most who know of them have their own theories as to their origin. Some believe the creatures are a genetic engineering experiment that got away from someone. Others insist they’re the result of ordinary sea bass and/or tuna being exposed to mutagenic medical waste that was illegally dumped into the ocean. Whatever the case may be, they mainly dwell in coastal waters and sustain themselves by feeding on fish and underwater plants.

Personality/Motivations: Aside from the basics of food and survival, this creature’s strongest drive is its rather peculiar desire to mate with a human female. For this purpose alone will it risk setting foot on land, usually at night (anyone foolhardy enough to be on the beach after dark can expect to run afoul of it). The creature will search for a suitable “bride” to abduct and will viciously kill any human males that try to get in its way. If successful in its search, it will take her home to its underwater grotto where it can hold her captive and mate with her at its leisure.

Powers/Tactics: The creature prefers to attack from ambush, using its stealth and knowledge of its home area to its advantage. Its first priority will be to Grab and subdue a human female and quickly abscond with her, and will use its caustic spittle and claws if forced into open combat. If outnumbered and/or facing opposition armed with guns and/or other weapons it knows can hurt it, it will make a run for the water and use its burst of speed to make a rapid getaway.

Appearance: The Sea Creature is a grayish green fish-like humanoid with gills, scales, sharp teeth and claws, and webbed fingers and toes for swimming.

Designer’s Notes: Obviously, the above was built on the Swamp Creature write-up in Hero System Bestiary page 211 with some additional abilities and minor changes.

The government certainly managed to cover up that raid on Innsmouth well, didn't they?

Great! I'll add it to the "Original Characters" section.

They also did an A-1 job dealing with the aftermath of the Canco incident... ;)

Saw the write-up on Surbrook's last night. A minor glitch or two not withstanding, it looks good.

The 1 got dropped off 190 in the Disads Total and the computer seems to have done something rather odd to all the " in the write-up. Other than that, everything's perfect.

1) Looking at its's DR, you'd need to bring out the larger guns and/or Armor Piercing ammo to do BODY to one of these SOBs; maybe even break out the shotguns. Of course, it seems reasonable enough for something like this to be that tough.

2) Exacty how does this thing subdue its "bride" after it grabs her? You're alittle vague on that point.

3) The burst of speed thing is a nice option for this thing to have, kudos.

This is really quite a good adaptation! Marcus, I liked him so much I put him in HD and posted him (giving you the credit of course!) on the Character archive. Let me know if you want me to take him down; I'm putting just about everything I stat out in there nowadays.

Sea Creature

And if anyone's looking for an image, this is my favorite classic Creature image.
