Archon

This is an upcoming event in St. Louis, October 2-5. I am not familar with it and was wondering what other St. Louis area residents thought of it, and if there was going to be any Hero gathering there. It does appear to have gaming and I was thinking of dropping by and seeing the action on one or two days of the event. I still can't seem to get the games schedule, so I don't know if its complete yet.

I went to Archon two years ago, and I'd be happy to give you my impressions of it. It was the first convention that I've ever been to, so I don't really have anything to compare it to.
I got there before they even opened on Friday, which made registration quick and painless. However, that early a lot of the planned activities were not well organized and were not ready to go until later that night. The movies didn't get going until later, artists were still hanging up their works, etc... Going on Friday would have been almost a total waste, except that I got registered for some games on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaking of gaming registration, there was a long line for what seemed like a small amount of games. I ended up getting into two games that I wasn't really all that anxious to play. One was 7th sea, for which the coordinator was like three hours late. I ended up playing "Lord of the Fries" with some fun people to pass the time and that ended up being more fun anyway. The other game was D&D.
Having said that, if you want to learn a game that's new and heavily promoted (like Spycraft was at the time), or if you don't mind playing a game that starts at midnight, you probably won't have the problems I had. Looks like they have changed the registration format a little so it might be better this year.
It seemed like there was a lot of people there for the masquerade/LARP (dressing up in costumes). That's not really my bag, but whatever.
I enjoyed the panel discussions that I went to. I bought a lot of cool stuff, and got a lot of free stuff too. I saw Steve Jackson and Robert Jordan. If you were a Jordan fan, you could have gotten autographs or had a long talk with him about his books. ;)
I'm going again this year because I'll be in St. Louis that weekend, but I don't know that I would have gone out of my way otherwise (I live 4 hours away).
If you have any specific questions, I would be happy to answer them!
p.s. The game schedule is up. Looks like there are two Champions, one Fantasy Hero (yay!), and one Star Hero games planned. No official Hero representation. However, the guest of honor, Michael Stackpole, has a Hero connection. He co-wrote Justice, Inc. and some Champions stuff way back in the day.
