I've been pondering adding the Heroes Unlimited books to my growing collection of superhero RP materials. Does anyone have any of these books, and what do you think of them. How easily does the "general abilities" of a character convert over- not talking a nuts and bolts conversion, more of a re-imagening. Is there enough info in character description to pull off a rebuild.
A couple of supplements Century Station and Grammercy island look pretty nifty.
Thanks in advance for any info.

I have most of the HU books. Got on a Palladium kick for a while (I think it was just the idea of Rifts being specificly designed for cross-genre). As for converting characters....hmmm.... seems like some would be easier than others. The best bet would be to take the basic concept of the charcater and build from there, rather than a straight stat-by-stat conversion (that's how I converted the 4th Edition Champions team to HU).

That was my basic intention. :D
Quick question- Are the character desciption little one paragraph jobs or fairly detailed?
Thanks for the info.

From what I recall, fairly detailed. I had the old HU Revised edition and the Villains Unlimited supplement. Had some decent material. Translating over to Hero should be simple in most cases.

My favorite is HU 2nd Edition (or HU2). Provides lots of options, new powers, and more powerful heroes. As for the descriptions, do you mean the characters, or their powers? Both are pretty detailed. The character write ups give you a good bit of background and history, motivations, and 9 times out of 10 a picture.
The power write-ups are very detailed and tell you exactly what you can do with the power in HU2. However, I would make changes and expand capabilities when converting to Champions, otherwise they're going to come out pretty low-point.

Mostly the character, with a clear description of what the powers are. When I convert from another system, I don't usually do a converstion as such. I read the background, read the native mechanics of what the character is to have, and rewrite the character and build him in HERO. Just wanted to make sure there was enough detail for me to use my standard method.
From the info I have recieved here and over at RPG net, I am likely to start getting this stuff.

Books that would be well worth getting: Century Station and Gramercy Island and Villains UNlimited. Without the system to hold them down, these books have ideas that make for great playing in other systems.

I agree about all but Gramercy Island. This book is horrible. There may be one or two characters in there worth possibly converting. I'm just glad I didn't pay for the book.

Chello!
If like a bunch of aliens races, Aliens Unlimited is also worth your while. Villians Unltd. is oop, but it is the must have imno from the HU line.

Just picked up VU at the local game shop (not the one I work at) used at half price. Some nice characters there. The speedster team will be making an appearance in my campaign. heh.

This is the perfect villain group to use wjen your players really need a good lesson in humility. Of course, on the few occasions I have used them, I usually drop Whirligig (I think that's his name), and replace him with Speed Metal (Sonic Speed, and Alter Physical Structure: Metal)

I also like the monkey.
Held in a lab, experimented on with a speedster serum. That goes kerfluyee and get sold to some other mad doctor who does other experiments on him to give him speech, human level intellect and psionic powers.
Turns into an ecoterrorist - usually hunting down companies that do experiments on animals.
An eco terrorist I can respect. I plan to use him, and have his "archnemesis" be Dr Silverback, who keeps trying to reform him.

I have villains unlimited, you get your moneys worth. It has cool pictures and goes in detail when discussing the characters personality. It even have a system for creating your own organisation or country which is very nice, and easily adaptable to other systems I have used it in everything from shadowrun to hero system.

VU was one of the best books ever put out by PB. Fabricators Inc. is a neat plot idea for any game world, the Masters of Speed are cool and even the Sentinels od Liberty and Justice are workable.

I have used Fabricators, Inc., or something very much like them, in almost every supers game I've run. No matter what system, and in almost any setting, the bad guys have to have some place to get all their fun toys.

If you want it for your collection because you are a collector then its a must have for superhero genre rpg materials.
If you want it for ideas... it couldn't hurt if you can pick it up on the cheap.
If you want it because you want to try to run it... I refrain from comment on the principle that if you can't say anything nice you shouldn't say anything at all.
