Steve: Two Basilisk Orbs?

Is the Basilisk Orb described in Tuala Morn the same artifact that DEMON has used in the modern-day Champions setting? I ask because the Orb in TM appears to have different powers, and none of the corrupting influence, of the Orb described in DEMON: Servants Of Darkness.

If it is the same artifact, is there an "official" rationale for the apparent differences?
