And considering the blue books(pdf) have 6th Edition on the front I hope this is the right Forum for all my questions. If not just point me to the right one!

Alright my biggest concerns is that I just picked up this system(never played GURPS or HERO, but a lot of WoD and D&D) and I want to make sure I understand all the math right, I Don't know all the acronyms so please be sparing in there issue(or point me to were you find them please) in response to my questions.

Thank you in advance!

Ok Question one, Did I do this math right? My first power for Hero System!

Lazar Carbine
Power:Blast 8d6(40)
Advantages
Armor Piercing +1/4 5 Shot Autofire +1/2

40 x 1 3/4 = 70 Activation Cost

Limitations

Can be Deflected -1/4
Charges, 60 Shot battery pack +1/2
Focus(the Gun itself) [Obvious,Accessible,, non Expendable, Durable] -1

70 / 1/4 = 17.5(round down) is 17 Real Cost

The point of this is to make a weapon that is commonly found, durable, and reliable, and can last in a good length in a fire fight. I think the Attack damage(8d6) is a bit high, but like I said, I just picked up the books, so I don't really know all that well.

Any impute would be beloved, thank you.

PS Where do I find OAF, Ive been looking for that but can't find it, I see it all over the forums but can't find it in the books.

Welcome to HERO! We hope you enjoy the system as much as we do, and have as much fun playing it.

1. You almost did the math right. You definitely seem to have the steps correct, but you put Charges (a +1/2 Advantage due to the number of Charges) in with the Limitations, when it should be with the Advantages.

2. The Limitation Can Be Deflected isn't valid for this power, since Blast by definition is subject to Deflection. That Limitation is only valid for Powers that normally cannot be Deflected, such as Area Of Effect attacks or Entangles (see 6E1 145).

3. OAF is an abbreviation for Obvious Accessible Focus, so you can find it under the Focus rules (which it looks like you've already read, so you're good to go). The Glossary on 6E1 22-26 contains most (if not all) of the standard abbreviations used in the rules.

4. Here's how that Laser Carbine works out in the end:

Blast 8d6 (40 Base Points)
Advantages: Armor Piercing (+1/4), Autofire (5 shots; +1/2), 60 Charges (+1/2)
So, 40 x (1 + 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/2 =) 90 Active Points

Limitations: OAF (-1).
Total cost: 90 / (1 + 1 =) 45 points.

A Limitation that's usually applied to lasers is Beam (-1/4), which means the attack can't be Spread (see 6E1 145). That would reduce the cost to 40 points.

Hope that helps! If you have other builds you want input on, post 'em in the Discussion forum (where anyone can reply) and you'll get all sorts of help. We have a very friendly and enthusiastic group of fans. ;)
