I've been having problems updating my v1 system to v2. I am getting a message about "Unable to communicate with server"
I am both online, and behind a firewall, so information about what port/protocal needs to be available is needed.
Thank you.

The firewall's the problem (obviously)....the app is communicating on port 80, but some firewalls have had problems with this even when that port is opened up because the traffic is not HTTP (exclusively).
The online check is only in place for the test versions...it will not be part of the final demo version or the full version of v2.

I am behind a firewall also, and without proxy settings in the Designer, I will not be able to get out. If it is possible, you might want to look into adding some sort of preferences for the program so that people can set that type of stuff.
I know that you are using port 80, but couldn't you just query the settings for Internet Explorer and use that those are set for. I know that is what a lot of other programs will do.

Honestly, I'm not interested in putting that much time into it. That part of the app is only in place for the testing versions....it will be pulled out entirely prior to release.
Querying IE doesn't work....this is a Java app, designed to run on multiple systems, many of which do not have IE. The methods for querying the proxies and other TCP/IP settings vary from OS to OS and are extremely difficult to code in on a platform-independent application.
Thankfully, I don't have to worry about doing that, as the function is temporary.

My problem was the machine I was using was
NAT'ed behind the firewall. When I tried
to get the v2 version using the firewall
machine, which has a valid external IP, it worked.
