Performance and platforms

Just curious: currently HD will run with the Java VMs on Win, Linux, and Solaris. Does it perform better with one OS over another? I'm guessing Solaris is the shoe-in, but how about Linux? Is there any difference?

Of the three VMs there's not really that much of a difference in performance (VM-wise). Some OSes are better/faster than others, however. Linux in particular, when properly configured, can take very good advantage of the hardware that it's given.....this will lead to better performance on all apps, HD in particular (since v1 is very processor-intensive).

I haven't done any in-depth studies along that line, however, so this is just based off of what I know of the OSes and their JVMs.
