hi Steve
Steven S. Long (07:59.23 PM)
Looks like a nice-sized crowd tonight. Good thing I wore my best suit! :-)
Chris Reynolds (07:59.59 PM)
riiiight
:-D
Indiana Joe (08:00.08 PM)
Hey Steve. The pinstripes work, I think.
Gregory (08:00.12 PM)
Gettin ready for Origins! :-)
Steven S. Long (08:00.30 PM)
See you there Gregory! I've been doing the same, here and there between work. ;-)
Hey Narf!
I'm glad I didn't miss the chat -- I got wrapped up watching BREAKING BAD and nearly stayed in front of the TV too long!
Narf the Mouse (08:02.00 PM)
All hail TV, hypnotizer of minds!
Steven S. Long (08:02.22 PM)
Not TV in general necessarily, but BREAKING BAD in particular. ;-)
Chris Reynolds (08:03.24 PM)
hmm that looks like an interesting show, may have to pick it when I get a chance and money
Steven S. Long (08:03.26 PM)
We'll give it another minute or three and then I'll start with announcements.
Lord Liaden (08:04.59 PM)
Harlan Ellison used to write a newspaper column about television called "The Glass Teat."
Steven S. Long (08:05.20 PM)
Chris -- it's phenomenally good; I highly recommend it.
OK, I think we've waited long enough -- time for announcements!
First, as was mentioned earlier, next week is Origins! Come find us in the Exhibit Hall in booth #809, which is in the lower right hand corner as you look at the map.
I haven't gotten the latest update from Darren, but I believe the general plot is to have the first batch of HERO SYSTEM GRIMOIREs there, with the rest following into our warehouses shortly.
Eddie! (08:07.10 PM)
Greetings Programs
Lord Liaden (08:07.32 PM)
I remember somone mentioned Hero Games wasn't advertised as a separate exhibitor at the con. Do you know if that was cleared up?
Steven S. Long (08:07.34 PM)
We're gearing up to try using Square for the first time. I got my module for it in the mail this week and tested it out. It's amazing that I can use this little thing about the size of a nickel to swipe credit cards through my smartphone!
Scott Bennie (08:07.51 PM)
Heya folks. Hi Steve.
Eddie! (08:08.02 PM)
HERO Games App??
Lord Liaden (08:08.06 PM)
Hey there, Scott.
Steven S. Long (08:08.23 PM)
LL -- we're listed separately at Origins AFAIK. We weren't listed separately in the prelim book for GenCon because, as usual, the GenCon people fucked it all up. Based on their previous track record, I estimate about a 15% chance that's corrected by convention time.
Eddie! (08:08.24 PM)
hehyah Scott
Lord Liaden (08:08.30 PM)
Won't be long before we're all chipped and scanable. :-(
Steven S. Long (08:08.53 PM)
Eddie -- well, there is an app for the iPhone, yes indeed. It was created by Dale Barnes. I don't recall the name, but it's a great little app.
Eddie! (08:08.59 PM)
Medically that might be a good thing Scott
Steven S. Long (08:09.02 PM)
LL -- that is my plan. }: )
Second, I am continuing to write THE ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II! It's coming along really well. I spent much of this week concocting rules and guidelines for Social Combat. Tomorrow I'm going to dive into the last major chunk of the book, some expanded Focus creation rules.
Eddie! (08:10.03 PM)
Needs Schedules and Maps to HERO Games Tables
Steven S. Long (08:10.37 PM)
Eddie -- we will have those listed on a big white board at the booth, IIRC. Or if not you can just ask us and we can probably point you toward a game. ;-)
Christougher (08:10.47 PM)
Anything from the APG2 thread that ISN'T making it into the book, Steve?
Eddie! (08:11.26 PM)
With all you write I am surprised you can find your Focus. It would be a cool Car for a HERO Gamer...
Steven S. Long (08:12.04 PM)
Still, there are plenty of useful nuggets in those threads too. ;-)
Hmmm. My first response went away. Let me try again.
Christopher -- yes, about 75% of what was suggested in the thread didn't go into APG2.
Eddie! (08:13.13 PM)
Any gadgets and Gear included with APG2 Social Skills... Perfume and Dresses that add to a Heroines Skill Levels?
Steven S. Long (08:13.15 PM)
In any WDYWTS thread, there are way more suggestions that aren't usable for some reason, or are meaningless chit-chat, than there is useful material.
Christougher (08:13.23 PM)
I spell it different for a reason, don't mistake me for that guy on the forums. ;-)
Steven S. Long (08:13.43 PM)
Eddie -- no. There's no reason you couldn't create such things, but I haven't written any up.
Ah, sorry, Christougher. ;-)
Eddie! (08:14.10 PM)
Fashion HERO for 2012 Schedule...PDF coming soon!
Swim Suit Issue
Steven S. Long (08:14.26 PM)
Still, to finish my though, every WDYWTS thread also has many useful ideas and nuggets. The trick is just siftin' through for 'em. ;-)
Eddie! (08:14.31 PM)
Super Dating Tips
Scott Bennie (08:14.56 PM)
Modelled by the lovely Ishtvatha V'Han, also debuting her new fragrance, Tyrannica
Eddie! (08:15.09 PM)
snickers
Steven S. Long (08:15.10 PM)
Scott -- no, that's the *next* supplement. ;-)
Scott -- nope, that's the *next* supplement. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:15.44 PM)
Looking forward to Book of the Empress.
Lord Liaden (08:15.45 PM)
I don't want to be the guy who has to tell V'han that her outfit isn't making it.
Eddie! (08:15.53 PM)
A new perfume called Empress of the Universe! <<<Flash! Ahhh ah ah>>>
Steven S. Long (08:16.18 PM)
"Dispatch War Rocket Ajax to bring back his body."
Eddie! (08:16.34 PM)
LOL
Scott Bennie (08:16.38 PM)
A single universe? V'han? How dare you insult her!
Lord Liaden (08:16.39 PM)
Steve -- do you think any other "Book Of.." books may come down the pike eventually?
Scott Bennie (08:17.30 PM)
Book of Perfection? Book of the Mad Fox?
Eddie! (08:17.38 PM)
Archie is making me Paranoid for some reason
Steven S. Long (08:17.42 PM)
LL -- I don't have any others in mind right now. What's more likely...
...is a "book of miscellaneous master villains" where say 4-6 villains get expanded coverage.
Gregory (08:18.03 PM)
I'd like to see the Golden Age of Champions or WWII Hero someday!!!! :-)
Steven S. Long (08:18.12 PM)
(Sorry, board keeps eating my posts; am trying smaller threads.)
Eddie! (08:18.17 PM)
Use Pulp HERO
Steven S. Long (08:18.24 PM)
Gregory -- GAC remains "in the works." It'll be done when it's done...
Lord Liaden (08:18.32 PM)
I just thought Takofanes must have a lot of extra-dimensional real estate that could use details. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:18.34 PM)
Book of the Dude Who Bulldozes You With Awsome!
Steven S. Long (08:18.37 PM)
...but that's not likely to be anytime soon, given Darren's numerous other responsibilities.
Indiana Joe (08:18.44 PM)
Book of the Snake - VIPER hasn't been updated for 6e yet.
Eddie! (08:18.51 PM)
ouchie
Steven S. Long (08:18.55 PM)
LL -- in theory both Takofanes and Teleios are pretty major. But...
...both are easily "covered" by other books, such as the Bestiary and the Grimoire.
Chris Reynolds (08:19.22 PM)
HeroRef is the name of the iPhone/Pad App
Steven S. Long (08:19.27 PM)
I don't really have enough to say about either to make it worth doing a whole book.
Chris Reynolds (08:19.31 PM)
sorry you mentioned and I had to go looking for it
Eddie! (08:19.34 PM)
I see Telios as more subtle than the MMO in the Champions Universe of things
Shane Harsch (08:19.41 PM)
Written by dale barnes
Steven S. Long (08:19.43 PM)
Thanx, Chris, I knew someone would remember. :-) Until there's a Droid version I never will.
Eddie -- you see correctly. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:19.53 PM)
iOS app that is
Narf the Mouse (08:19.59 PM)
@Chris R: What's it for?
Scott Bennie (08:19.59 PM)
Everyone is more subtle than in the MMO. The medium doesn't do subtle well.
Chris Reynolds (08:20.44 PM)
looks like it has a bunch of reference material
Eddie! (08:20.44 PM)
Yeah the Free to Play version killed it for me performance wise.
Shane Harsch (08:21.13 PM)
Steve - would it be okay to make a delis/web app that is essentially a hero screen/support tool
Chris Reynolds (08:21.17 PM)
like it has the all of the tables for hit locations and how much stun/docy they do
Shane Harsch (08:21.22 PM)
?
Scott Bennie (08:21.58 PM)
It didn't slow my performance dow, Eddie. And Resistance and the comic series have been pretty good.
Shane Harsch (08:22.00 PM)
Delis= droid when munged by ipad
Lord Liaden (08:22.10 PM)
I bought a one-month Gold subscription to CO just so I could post answers to CU lore questions in the forums.
Eddie! (08:22.25 PM)
Heh
Chris Reynolds (08:22.31 PM)
I'm looking at the damage table for firearms... It looks like that's pretty much all it is I think it also has something for managing combat
Shane Harsch (08:22.34 PM)
I have one I use but haven't shared
Shiva13 (08:22.42 PM)
Steve: How goes progress on the printer logjam?
Steven S. Long (08:22.42 PM)
Shane, email me about that.
mkultra (08:22.43 PM)
Steve, last week you mentioned the possibility of a pdf release of StarHero before the gencon debut. Any updates?
Shane Harsch (08:22.48 PM)
K
Steven S. Long (08:23.10 PM)
Shiva -- all the info I had about that I mentioned in announcements earlier. We're hoping to have the first bits of HSG at Origins next week.
Shane Harsch (08:23.13 PM)
Sh PDF -yes plz. Running 2events
Steven S. Long (08:23.20 PM)
mk -- no, not yet, sorry.
Shane -- I can show it to you on my Xoom at Origins, at least. ;-)
Eddie! (08:23.29 PM)
HERO Designer Updates?
Steven S. Long (08:23.46 PM)
Eddie -- you'll have to ask about that on the forums. I don't keep track of what Dan's up to. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:23.51 PM)
I ended up creating the best Galaxar for a recent RP session -- the Slumberer, a Galaxar who wanders the universe looking for good places to go to sleep.
Steven S. Long (08:24.03 PM)
::yawn:: is his battle cry. :-)
Eddie! (08:24.15 PM)
snores
Scott Bennie (08:24.16 PM)
And gets very cranku if you try to wake him up.
Archie (08:24.36 PM)
Re-hi, gang
Steven S. Long (08:24.47 PM)
Hi, Archie!
Eddie! (08:24.47 PM)
Yikes!
Scott Bennie (08:24.54 PM)
Hi Archie.
Narf the Mouse (08:24.56 PM)
Hi, Archie
Lord Liaden (08:25.26 PM)
Testing -- my posts are being dissolved!
Steven S. Long (08:25.35 PM)
LL -- I am having the same problem.
Eddie! (08:25.45 PM)
Huh?
Descoto (08:26.05 PM)
I wish we could get a new chat program on the site
Narf the Mouse (08:26.08 PM)
@Eddie: The chat looses posts sometimes.
Chris Reynolds (08:26.31 PM)
cool... you can use it to setup Campaigns -> Adventures -> Characters & Encounters -> Who goes when per segment....
Steven S. Long (08:26.31 PM)
Descato -- if you're willing to pay for it, we'll be glad to set one up. Otherwise, what we've got is just fine. ;-)
Lord Liaden (08:26.44 PM)
Galaxars are great for "theme" adventures -- you could come up with one for nearly anything.
Steven S. Long (08:27.51 PM)
I think the only limit there is, absent humor, a Galaxar has to be "obsessed" with a subject or theme that provides enough variety to satisfy an ultra-powerful immortal's curiosity. ;-)
Animals work. Birds might work. Dingos do not work. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:28.35 PM)
Basically a Galaxar buried in one of Revenger;s old bases, being used as a power source for a weapons system. Also Revenger's giant blue Amazon women, which provided many snu-snu jokes.
Lord Liaden (08:28.48 PM)
Well, there's nothing to say that every species sleeps the same way. ;-)
Steven S. Long (08:29.11 PM)
I just wrote up some rules for sleep and sleep deprivation for APG2 today. ;)
Narf the Mouse (08:29.36 PM)
@LL: Plus, when you sleep for a thousand years, there's new stuff everywhere.
Scott Bennie (08:29.50 PM)
Ha. You should have talked to me, Steve. The last couple of months have made me an expert.
Shane Harsch (08:30.05 PM)
Nice - include anything for sleeping in armor or on rough ground/bad angles?
Lord Liaden (08:30.05 PM)
Way to bring the discussion back to book promotion, Steve. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:30.18 PM)
Steve has a gift.
Steven S. Long (08:30.30 PM)
Shane -- yes, more or less. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:31.17 PM)
You can't abort to dodge like that
Eddie! (08:31.25 PM)
Rl taking over... later folks
Scott Bennie (08:31.38 PM)
Night Eddie. Stay strong/
Archie (08:31.55 PM)
Cya, eddie
Scott Bennie (08:31.56 PM)
And no rioting!
Chris Reynolds (08:32.00 PM)
Army Strong or just strong?
Scott Bennie (08:32.15 PM)
Arnold Strong.
Shane Harsch (08:32.33 PM)
Commando or twins?
Lord Liaden (08:32.36 PM)
Wait -- a Galaxar obsessed with birds...
Shane Harsch (08:32.45 PM)
Angry ones
Narf the Mouse (08:32.52 PM)
That explode?
Lord Liaden (08:32.57 PM)
I've been trying to think of an origin for the Bird-People of Thaar...
Chris Reynolds (08:33.03 PM)
.... or boom-a-rang?
Shane Harsch (08:33.21 PM)
Pigs could have stolen their eggs
Lord Liaden (08:33.21 PM)
... that would tie to the alien Thrinu of the planet Thar. This might work!
Narf the Mouse (08:33.31 PM)
@Chris R: For your boom-a-rang to come back, first you have to throw it.
Archie (08:33.53 PM)
Steve, what is your position about if someone were to create a Hero character creator for an iDevice?
Chris Reynolds (08:33.58 PM)
but... I don't want to throw it's so pretty and shiny...
Scott Bennie (08:34.14 PM)
The Ornithologist, the Galaxar that's obsessed with Avians.
Shane Harsch (08:34.15 PM)
Pigs could have stolen their eggs...
Steven S. Long (08:34.26 PM)
Archie -- our position is that it has to be licensed from us, or it violates our intellectual property rights. Fortunately we are very easy to license from. :-)
Shane Harsch (08:34.50 PM)
Easy like a Sunday mornin
Chris Reynolds (08:35.18 PM)
please let me know if I've missed it but something I've been looking for is a hero's base GM Screen
Lord Liaden (08:35.29 PM)
With respect, "Ornithologist" sounds a little dry. I'd llike to find something with more pizzazz.
Scott Bennie (08:35.46 PM)
It beats the Birdwatcher.
Narf the Mouse (08:35.47 PM)
@LL: "Legend of Birds"
Steven S. Long (08:35.49 PM)
Moreover, we are always happy to see more Hero-based utilities and such -- especially for Android. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:35.59 PM)
Sorry - bit punchy. At water park with my kids and they're still goin'. Luckily There's makers mark
Steven S. Long (08:36.03 PM)
Chris -- we still have some copies of the 5E GM's screen. We haven't yet done one for 6E.
Yay, Maker's Mark!
Narf the Mouse (08:36.27 PM)
"No, Narf, you can't apply to write a Hero System character creator. You've got too much to do already..."
Lord Liaden (08:36.32 PM)
I've always been impressed with Hero fandom's contribution to the digital side of the hobby.
Steven S. Long (08:36.42 PM)
LL --actually, if I were officially to create such a Galaxar, I would in fact probably call him the Ornithologist. ;-)
LL - me too! Hero fans, as usual, are awesome.
Chris Reynolds (08:36.56 PM)
ah cool, also the only reason I have a iPad is because I can't hardly find anything for the droid tablets
Lord Liaden (08:37.02 PM)
Aps, spreadsheets, tables -- you name it.
Steven S. Long (08:37.11 PM)
We just need more of them creating apps for Android. Particularly Honeycomb. :-)
Narf the Mouse (08:37.44 PM)
"Hello, control? He uses an Android. Honeycomb." :-D
Chris Reynolds (08:38.10 PM)
also until the Galaxy 10.1 came out I wasn't seeing much hope for the droid tablets
Steven S. Long (08:38.16 PM)
I have plent yof great apps on my Xoom, just no Hero-related ones, 'cause no one's created any yet.
Shane Harsch (08:38.17 PM)
I go both ways - iPad but droid (g2x) phone. Plus do most stuf in gdocs ( thanks uncky goog)
Chris Reynolds (08:38.41 PM)
heh same here except I have the orginal droid
Shane Harsch (08:38.49 PM)
Learning the droid programming slowly.
Lord Liaden (08:39.08 PM)
Blasted post-eating software!
Sorry, had to vent my frustration.
Shane Harsch (08:39.41 PM)
Got enough projects to complete first ;-)
My ne job will help with that -mo money less work no ops responsibility.
Narf the Mouse (08:40.36 PM)
@Shane: Congo rats for you!
Steven S. Long (08:40.47 PM)
Well, get cracking then, I want more cool apps for my Xoom. ;-)
Archie (08:41.01 PM)
I don't know enough current coding to create an app for any tablet device.
Shane Harsch (08:41.17 PM)
I want swype for my iPad -steve did you get the free swype 3 beta (beta.swype.com) ? It's awesome.
Steven S. Long (08:41.33 PM)
No, I haven't used Swype. What does it do?
Chris Reynolds (08:41.53 PM)
instead of typing you just run your finger from one letter to the next to spell your words
Shane Harsch (08:42.09 PM)
Check it out. You "draw" the words on the keyboard
Steven S. Long (08:42.24 PM)
Hmmm... I would be willing to try that but I suspect it would drive me insane. I will give it a look though.
Chris Reynolds (08:42.26 PM)
its actually a lot faster imo
Shane Harsch (08:42.27 PM)
Oor what chris said
Steven S. Long (08:42.41 PM)
Craxy kids with your newfangled jimcrackery.
Chris Reynolds (08:43.05 PM)
sure what ever you say Mr. Xoom user...
Lord Liaden (08:43.17 PM)
The idea of a device that would let Steve type FASTER is mind-blowing.
Steven S. Long (08:43.18 PM)
What really tempts me these days are programs that let me run my desktop and work on it from my Xoom.
Shane Harsch (08:43.21 PM)
Yep. Has it's quirks but nothin better while I'm eatin a sammich in my car and tweeting
Steven S. Long (08:43.37 PM)
However, I'm not aware of one that quite meets my needs just yet. So keeping an eye out.
Chris Reynolds (08:43.47 PM)
....hopefully the car isn't moving while your doing that
hopefully the car isn't moving when your doing that
Shane Harsch (08:44.03 PM)
Well, it's free and you can turn it off at wil
If the car wasnt moving I could use both hands, duh
Steven S. Long (08:45.05 PM)
LL -- faster *on a tablet or phone.* That's like saying a faster turtle. It's still ridiculously slow compared to a normal keyboard, at least for me. ;-)
Chris Reynolds (08:45.24 PM)
... well I guess there is some hope for you then
Shane Harsch (08:45.30 PM)
Yeah, agreed.
Steven S. Long (08:45.47 PM)
I do wish, though, that tablets were designed more for productivity and less for entertainment delivery.
I suspect it'll be 5+ years before they get the tablet to where I want it to be. ;-)
Chris Reynolds (08:46.05 PM)
fair enough but that's what netbooks are for
Shane Harsch (08:46.20 PM)
Okay, gotta grab the kids -cedar point tomorrow -w007!
Steven S. Long (08:46.28 PM)
Have fun Shane!
Archie (08:46.35 PM)
Well, the key point for productivity is you need the proper tools for doing said action and nothing has beat the keyboard for text entry yet.
Chris Reynolds (08:46.36 PM)
lucky duck

Archie (08:47.16 PM)
Though voice recognition has been better lately.
Narf the Mouse (08:47.20 PM)
Bye, Shane
Shane Harsch (08:47.27 PM)
Bye all
Steven S. Long (08:47.31 PM)
Shane -- not in the booth; there's no room. You can run it in that demo games room the con has set up, I think.
Archie (08:47.32 PM)

Shane Harsch (08:47.44 PM)

Lord Liaden (08:47.57 PM)

Steven S. Long (08:48.16 PM)

Archie (08:48.21 PM)

Second, I am continuing to write THE ADVANCED PLAYER'S GUIDE II! It's coming along really well. I spent much of this week concocting rules and guidelines for Social Combat. Tomorrow I'm going to dive into the last major chunk of the book, some expanded Focus creation rules.
Eddie! (08:10.03 PM)
Needs Schedules and Maps to HERO Games Tables
Steven S. Long (08:10.37 PM)
Eddie -- we will have those listed on a big white board at the booth, IIRC. Or if not you can just ask us and we can probably point you toward a game. ;-)
Christougher (08:10.47 PM)
Anything from the APG2 thread that ISN'T making it into the book, Steve?
Eddie! (08:11.26 PM)
With all you write I am surprised you can find your Focus. It would be a cool Car for a HERO Gamer...
Steven S. Long (08:12.04 PM)
Still, there are plenty of useful nuggets in those threads too. ;-)
Hmmm. My first response went away. Let me try again.
Christopher -- yes, about 75% of what was suggested in the thread didn't go into APG2.
Eddie! (08:13.13 PM)
Any gadgets and Gear included with APG2 Social Skills... Perfume and Dresses that add to a Heroines Skill Levels?
Steven S. Long (08:13.15 PM)
In any WDYWTS thread, there are way more suggestions that aren't usable for some reason, or are meaningless chit-chat, than there is useful material.
Christougher (08:13.23 PM)
I spell it different for a reason, don't mistake me for that guy on the forums. ;-)
Steven S. Long (08:13.43 PM)
Eddie -- no. There's no reason you couldn't create such things, but I haven't written any up.
Ah, sorry, Christougher. ;-)
Eddie! (08:14.10 PM)
Fashion HERO for 2012 Schedule...PDF coming soon!
Swim Suit Issue
Steven S. Long (08:14.26 PM)
Still, to finish my though, every WDYWTS thread also has many useful ideas and nuggets. The trick is just siftin' through for 'em. ;-)
Eddie! (08:14.31 PM)
Super Dating Tips
Scott Bennie (08:14.56 PM)
Modelled by the lovely Ishtvatha V'Han, also debuting her new fragrance, Tyrannica
Eddie! (08:15.09 PM)
snickers
Steven S. Long (08:15.10 PM)
Scott -- no, that's the *next* supplement. ;-)
Scott -- nope, that's the *next* supplement. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:15.44 PM)
Looking forward to Book of the Empress.
Lord Liaden (08:15.45 PM)
I don't want to be the guy who has to tell V'han that her outfit isn't making it.
Eddie! (08:15.53 PM)
A new perfume called Empress of the Universe! <<<Flash! Ahhh ah ah>>>
Steven S. Long (08:16.18 PM)
"Dispatch War Rocket Ajax to bring back his body."
Eddie! (08:16.34 PM)
LOL
Scott Bennie (08:16.38 PM)
A single universe? V'han? How dare you insult her!
Lord Liaden (08:16.39 PM)
Steve -- do you think any other "Book Of.." books may come down the pike eventually?
Scott Bennie (08:17.30 PM)
Book of Perfection? Book of the Mad Fox?
Eddie! (08:17.38 PM)
Archie is making me Paranoid for some reason
Steven S. Long (08:17.42 PM)
LL -- I don't have any others in mind right now. What's more likely...
...is a "book of miscellaneous master villains" where say 4-6 villains get expanded coverage.
Gregory (08:18.03 PM)
I'd like to see the Golden Age of Champions or WWII Hero someday!!!! :-)
Steven S. Long (08:18.12 PM)
(Sorry, board keeps eating my posts; am trying smaller threads.)
Eddie! (08:18.17 PM)
Use Pulp HERO
Steven S. Long (08:18.24 PM)
Gregory -- GAC remains "in the works." It'll be done when it's done...
Lord Liaden (08:18.32 PM)
I just thought Takofanes must have a lot of extra-dimensional real estate that could use details. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:18.34 PM)
Book of the Dude Who Bulldozes You With Awsome!
Steven S. Long (08:18.37 PM)
...but that's not likely to be anytime soon, given Darren's numerous other responsibilities.
Indiana Joe (08:18.44 PM)
Book of the Snake - VIPER hasn't been updated for 6e yet.
Eddie! (08:18.51 PM)
ouchie
Steven S. Long (08:18.55 PM)
LL -- in theory both Takofanes and Teleios are pretty major. But...
...both are easily "covered" by other books, such as the Bestiary and the Grimoire.
Chris Reynolds (08:19.22 PM)
HeroRef is the name of the iPhone/Pad App
Steven S. Long (08:19.27 PM)
I don't really have enough to say about either to make it worth doing a whole book.
Chris Reynolds (08:19.31 PM)
sorry you mentioned and I had to go looking for it
Eddie! (08:19.34 PM)
I see Telios as more subtle than the MMO in the Champions Universe of things
Shane Harsch (08:19.41 PM)
Written by dale barnes
Steven S. Long (08:19.43 PM)
Thanx, Chris, I knew someone would remember. :-) Until there's a Droid version I never will.
Eddie -- you see correctly. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:19.53 PM)
iOS app that is
Narf the Mouse (08:19.59 PM)
@Chris R: What's it for?
Scott Bennie (08:19.59 PM)
Everyone is more subtle than in the MMO. The medium doesn't do subtle well.
Chris Reynolds (08:20.44 PM)
looks like it has a bunch of reference material
Eddie! (08:20.44 PM)
Yeah the Free to Play version killed it for me performance wise.
Shane Harsch (08:21.13 PM)
Steve - would it be okay to make a delis/web app that is essentially a hero screen/support tool
Chris Reynolds (08:21.17 PM)
like it has the all of the tables for hit locations and how much stun/docy they do
Shane Harsch (08:21.22 PM)
?
Scott Bennie (08:21.58 PM)
It didn't slow my performance dow, Eddie. And Resistance and the comic series have been pretty good.
Shane Harsch (08:22.00 PM)
Delis= droid when munged by ipad
Lord Liaden (08:22.10 PM)
I bought a one-month Gold subscription to CO just so I could post answers to CU lore questions in the forums.
Eddie! (08:22.25 PM)
Heh
Chris Reynolds (08:22.31 PM)
I'm looking at the damage table for firearms... It looks like that's pretty much all it is I think it also has something for managing combat
Shane Harsch (08:22.34 PM)
I have one I use but haven't shared
Shiva13 (08:22.42 PM)
Steve: How goes progress on the printer logjam?
Steven S. Long (08:22.42 PM)
Shane, email me about that.
mkultra (08:22.43 PM)
Steve, last week you mentioned the possibility of a pdf release of StarHero before the gencon debut. Any updates?
Shane Harsch (08:22.48 PM)
K
Steven S. Long (08:23.10 PM)
Shiva -- all the info I had about that I mentioned in announcements earlier. We're hoping to have the first bits of HSG at Origins next week.
Shane Harsch (08:23.13 PM)
Sh PDF -yes plz. Running 2events
Steven S. Long (08:23.20 PM)
mk -- no, not yet, sorry.
Shane -- I can show it to you on my Xoom at Origins, at least. ;-)
Eddie! (08:23.29 PM)
HERO Designer Updates?
Steven S. Long (08:23.46 PM)
Eddie -- you'll have to ask about that on the forums. I don't keep track of what Dan's up to. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:23.51 PM)
I ended up creating the best Galaxar for a recent RP session -- the Slumberer, a Galaxar who wanders the universe looking for good places to go to sleep.
Steven S. Long (08:24.03 PM)
::yawn:: is his battle cry. :-)
Eddie! (08:24.15 PM)
snores
Scott Bennie (08:24.16 PM)
And gets very cranku if you try to wake him up.
Archie (08:24.36 PM)
Re-hi, gang
Steven S. Long (08:24.47 PM)
Hi, Archie!
Eddie! (08:24.47 PM)
Yikes!
Scott Bennie (08:24.54 PM)
Hi Archie.
Narf the Mouse (08:24.56 PM)
Hi, Archie
Lord Liaden (08:25.26 PM)
Testing -- my posts are being dissolved!
Steven S. Long (08:25.35 PM)
LL -- I am having the same problem.
Eddie! (08:25.45 PM)
Huh?
Descoto (08:26.05 PM)
I wish we could get a new chat program on the site
Narf the Mouse (08:26.08 PM)
@Eddie: The chat looses posts sometimes.
Chris Reynolds (08:26.31 PM)
cool... you can use it to setup Campaigns -> Adventures -> Characters & Encounters -> Who goes when per segment....
Steven S. Long (08:26.31 PM)
Descato -- if you're willing to pay for it, we'll be glad to set one up. Otherwise, what we've got is just fine. ;-)
Lord Liaden (08:26.44 PM)
Galaxars are great for "theme" adventures -- you could come up with one for nearly anything.
Steven S. Long (08:27.51 PM)
I think the only limit there is, absent humor, a Galaxar has to be "obsessed" with a subject or theme that provides enough variety to satisfy an ultra-powerful immortal's curiosity. ;-)
Animals work. Birds might work. Dingos do not work. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:28.35 PM)
Basically a Galaxar buried in one of Revenger;s old bases, being used as a power source for a weapons system. Also Revenger's giant blue Amazon women, which provided many snu-snu jokes.
Lord Liaden (08:28.48 PM)
Well, there's nothing to say that every species sleeps the same way. ;-)
Steven S. Long (08:29.11 PM)
I just wrote up some rules for sleep and sleep deprivation for APG2 today. ;)
Narf the Mouse (08:29.36 PM)
@LL: Plus, when you sleep for a thousand years, there's new stuff everywhere.
Scott Bennie (08:29.50 PM)
Ha. You should have talked to me, Steve. The last couple of months have made me an expert.
Shane Harsch (08:30.05 PM)
Nice - include anything for sleeping in armor or on rough ground/bad angles?
Lord Liaden (08:30.05 PM)
Way to bring the discussion back to book promotion, Steve. ;-)
Scott Bennie (08:30.18 PM)
Steve has a gift.
Steven S. Long (08:30.30 PM)
Shane -- yes, more or less. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:31.17 PM)
You can't abort to dodge like that
Eddie! (08:31.25 PM)
Rl taking over... later folks
Scott Bennie (08:31.38 PM)
Night Eddie. Stay strong/
Archie (08:31.55 PM)
Cya, eddie
Scott Bennie (08:31.56 PM)
And no rioting!
Chris Reynolds (08:32.00 PM)
Army Strong or just strong?
Scott Bennie (08:32.15 PM)
Arnold Strong.
Shane Harsch (08:32.33 PM)
Commando or twins?
Lord Liaden (08:32.36 PM)
Wait -- a Galaxar obsessed with birds...
Shane Harsch (08:32.45 PM)
Angry ones
Narf the Mouse (08:32.52 PM)
That explode?
Lord Liaden (08:32.57 PM)
I've been trying to think of an origin for the Bird-People of Thaar...
Chris Reynolds (08:33.03 PM)
.... or boom-a-rang?
Shane Harsch (08:33.21 PM)
Pigs could have stolen their eggs
Lord Liaden (08:33.21 PM)
... that would tie to the alien Thrinu of the planet Thar. This might work!
Narf the Mouse (08:33.31 PM)
@Chris R: For your boom-a-rang to come back, first you have to throw it.
Archie (08:33.53 PM)
Steve, what is your position about if someone were to create a Hero character creator for an iDevice?
Chris Reynolds (08:33.58 PM)
but... I don't want to throw it's so pretty and shiny...
Scott Bennie (08:34.14 PM)
The Ornithologist, the Galaxar that's obsessed with Avians.
Shane Harsch (08:34.15 PM)
Pigs could have stolen their eggs...
Steven S. Long (08:34.26 PM)
Archie -- our position is that it has to be licensed from us, or it violates our intellectual property rights. Fortunately we are very easy to license from. :-)
Shane Harsch (08:34.50 PM)
Easy like a Sunday mornin
Chris Reynolds (08:35.18 PM)
please let me know if I've missed it but something I've been looking for is a hero's base GM Screen
Lord Liaden (08:35.29 PM)
With respect, "Ornithologist" sounds a little dry. I'd llike to find something with more pizzazz.
Scott Bennie (08:35.46 PM)
It beats the Birdwatcher.
Narf the Mouse (08:35.47 PM)
@LL: "Legend of Birds"
Steven S. Long (08:35.49 PM)
Moreover, we are always happy to see more Hero-based utilities and such -- especially for Android. ;-)
Shane Harsch (08:35.59 PM)
Sorry - bit punchy. At water park with my kids and they're still goin'. Luckily There's makers mark
Steven S. Long (08:36.03 PM)
Chris -- we still have some copies of the 5E GM's screen. We haven't yet done one for 6E.
Yay, Maker's Mark!
Narf the Mouse (08:36.27 PM)
"No, Narf, you can't apply to write a Hero System character creator. You've got too much to do already..."
Lord Liaden (08:36.32 PM)
I've always been impressed with Hero fandom's contribution to the digital side of the hobby.
Steven S. Long (08:36.42 PM)
LL --actually, if I were officially to create such a Galaxar, I would in fact probably call him the Ornithologist. ;-)
LL - me too! Hero fans, as usual, are awesome.
Chris Reynolds (08:36.56 PM)
ah cool, also the only reason I have a iPad is because I can't hardly find anything for the droid tablets
Lord Liaden (08:37.02 PM)
Aps, spreadsheets, tables -- you name it.
Steven S. Long (08:37.11 PM)
We just need more of them creating apps for Android. Particularly Honeycomb. :-)
Narf the Mouse (08:37.44 PM)
"Hello, control? He uses an Android. Honeycomb." :-D
Chris Reynolds (08:38.10 PM)
also until the Galaxy 10.1 came out I wasn't seeing much hope for the droid tablets
Steven S. Long (08:38.16 PM)
I have plent yof great apps on my Xoom, just no Hero-related ones, 'cause no one's created any yet.
Shane Harsch (08:38.17 PM)
I go both ways - iPad but droid (g2x) phone. Plus do most stuf in gdocs ( thanks uncky goog)
Chris Reynolds (08:38.41 PM)
heh same here except I have the orginal droid
Shane Harsch (08:38.49 PM)
Learning the droid programming slowly.
Lord Liaden (08:39.08 PM)
Blasted post-eating software!
Sorry, had to vent my frustration.
Shane Harsch (08:39.41 PM)
Got enough projects to complete first ;-)
My ne job will help with that -mo money less work no ops responsibility.
Narf the Mouse (08:40.36 PM)
@Shane: Congo rats for you!
Steven S. Long (08:40.47 PM)
Well, get cracking then, I want more cool apps for my Xoom. ;-)
Archie (08:41.01 PM)
I don't know enough current coding to create an app for any tablet device.
Shane Harsch (08:41.17 PM)
I want swype for my iPad -steve did you get the free swype 3 beta (beta.swype.com) ? It's awesome.
Steven S. Long (08:41.33 PM)
No, I haven't used Swype. What does it do?
Chris Reynolds (08:41.53 PM)
instead of typing you just run your finger from one letter to the next to spell your words
Shane Harsch (08:42.09 PM)
Check it out. You "draw" the words on the keyboard
Steven S. Long (08:42.24 PM)
Hmmm... I would be willing to try that but I suspect it would drive me insane. I will give it a look though.
Chris Reynolds (08:42.26 PM)
its actually a lot faster imo
Shane Harsch (08:42.27 PM)
Oor what chris said
Steven S. Long (08:42.41 PM)
Craxy kids with your newfangled jimcrackery.
Chris Reynolds (08:43.05 PM)
sure what ever you say Mr. Xoom user...
Lord Liaden (08:43.17 PM)
The idea of a device that would let Steve type FASTER is mind-blowing.
Steven S. Long (08:43.18 PM)
What really tempts me these days are programs that let me run my desktop and work on it from my Xoom.
Shane Harsch (08:43.21 PM)
Yep. Has it's quirks but nothin better while I'm eatin a sammich in my car and tweeting
Steven S. Long (08:43.37 PM)
However, I'm not aware of one that quite meets my needs just yet. So keeping an eye out.
Chris Reynolds (08:43.47 PM)
....hopefully the car isn't moving while your doing that
hopefully the car isn't moving when your doing that
Shane Harsch (08:44.03 PM)
Well, it's free and you can turn it off at wil
If the car wasnt moving I could use both hands, duh
Steven S. Long (08:45.05 PM)
LL -- faster *on a tablet or phone.* That's like saying a faster turtle. It's still ridiculously slow compared to a normal keyboard, at least for me. ;-)
Chris Reynolds (08:45.24 PM)
... well I guess there is some hope for you then
Shane Harsch (08:45.30 PM)
Yeah, agreed.
Steven S. Long (08:45.47 PM)
I do wish, though, that tablets were designed more for productivity and less for entertainment delivery.
I suspect it'll be 5+ years before they get the tablet to where I want it to be. ;-)
Chris Reynolds (08:46.05 PM)
fair enough but that's what netbooks are for
Shane Harsch (08:46.20 PM)
Okay, gotta grab the kids -cedar point tomorrow -w007!
Steven S. Long (08:46.28 PM)
Have fun Shane!
Archie (08:46.35 PM)
Well, the key point for productivity is you need the proper tools for doing said action and nothing has beat the keyboard for text entry yet.
Chris Reynolds (08:46.36 PM)
lucky duck
Narf the Mouse (08:46.41 PM)
Ring of Spell Storing, Major: Reflection (30 Active Points' worth), Any Target (+1/2), Delayed Effect (x2 number active; +1/2), Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2) (50 Active Points); OAF (-1), Only Works Against Common attack (Spells; -1/2)
Lord Liaden (08:46.48 PM)
'Night SH.
Shane Harsch (08:47.11 PM)
See you Friday -oh - can I run be a heroes on Friday in the booth?
Archie (08:47.16 PM)
Though voice recognition has been better lately.
Narf the Mouse (08:47.20 PM)
Bye, Shane
Shane Harsch (08:47.27 PM)
Bye all
Steven S. Long (08:47.31 PM)
Shane -- not in the booth; there's no room. You can run it in that demo games room the con has set up, I think.
Archie (08:47.32 PM)
Cya
Shane Harsch (08:47.44 PM)
K -cya
Lord Liaden (08:47.57 PM)
Narf -- where did that ring come from?!
Steven S. Long (08:48.16 PM)
All right folx, I think it's time for me to say goodnight as well. Need to finish up a few things 'fore bedtime.
Archie (08:48.21 PM)
Cya Steve
Steven S. Long (08:48.25 PM)
No chat next week due to Origins, so cya in 14!
