Ya know...
Parts of this game system remind me of parts of the Alternity game system. Nothing specific, just in general. Kind of like the way palladium reminds me of D&D.
By the way, yes, I know the Champions came out before Alternity. That doesn't stop them from being vaguly similar...
I don't know wether to be nostalgic or slightly unsettled... :D

Go with unsettled. Alternity isn't near old enough to be a nostalgia item.
And I see a lot of resemblance in the Mutants & Masterminds text to Hero products, so it's not an uncommon feeling.

I see a lot of resemblence between all of 3-3.5 ed. D&D and the Hero System that was not present in previous editions of D&D.

When D&D 3e came out my gaming group read the writeups on it and said the same thing: "So it's become Champions or GURPS now?"

LOL. Yep. But still with a stupid leveling and class system, and without Powers or generic Character Points. What's the point, other than a lot of source material being published for this still backwards system? That's why I am working on creating simple and fast conversion rules.

If you think d20 (3rd Ed or 3.5) has HERO elements, you should take a look at the "Alternity" system TSR developed not long before d20. It *very* much resembles an attempt to wed 2nd Edition DnD with HERO, and has an interesting curving randomizer system.

D&D 3e is not a bad system. Certainly it's more restrictive... I should say "structured." There's nothing inherantly wrong with it. Ultimately it's no different than having most of the metagaming the GM does taken care of for him. The downside is that it's very difficult to modify (at least compaired to Hero).

Seems alot of you guys think Alternity is related to d20. Really, after playing both for years, I have to say they are nothing alike. The only thing similar is the use of a d20, and they are used way differantly.
Alternity looks like it's closer to hero than d20... Really.

I know, it's one of the reason Alternity is on the short list of systems I've run more than one system. The HERO elements are *really* noticeable.
