Steven S. Long (07:58.40 PM)
Good evening folx!

Gordon Feiner (07:58.42 PM)
greetings gamers

Indiana Joe (07:58.49 PM)
Hey Steve.

Gordon Feiner (07:58.52 PM)
hey Steve

Steven S. Long (07:59.01 PM)
Good evening folx!
Hope everyone's doing well tonight.

Indiana Joe (07:59.33 PM)
I've had better days. Worse ones too, though.

Gordon Feiner (07:59.57 PM)
overcoming a cold, messing around on Discogs. Call it good.

Robert Dwyer (08:00.06 PM)
hi..doing ok...kinda cold in MI...so working on chracter conversions

Steven S. Long (08:00.39 PM)
Gordon, what's Discogs?

Narf the Mouse (08:00.51 PM)
Hey, Steve.

Gordon Feiner (08:00.54 PM)
www.discogs.com - online music discography. User driven database.
Attempting to document every single music release.
extremely precise, doesn't just document artists/albums - but different printings/pressings, companies, labels, and pretty much any detail you can find on a music release.

Steven S. Long (08:02.17 PM)
Cool. I have spent the past week or so ripping songs to my hard drive. Lots of music left to buy though.

Shane Harsch (08:02.23 PM)
Good evening gentle peoples of the inter tubes.

Fellhard (08:02.26 PM)
Hello Steve

Gordon Feiner (08:02.31 PM)
There always is. . .

Fellhard (08:02.50 PM)
err Steven

Steven S. Long (08:02.57 PM)
As usual we'll give it a few minutes, and then I'll open with announcements. ;)

Gordon Feiner (08:03.01 PM)
I had to buy an external drive for my music. Then I had to upgrade it. Now I'm just saving up for a RAID-5 Network Drive....

Lord Liaden (08:03.02 PM)
Hiya, Hero peeps.

Robert Dwyer (08:03.12 PM)
hey LL

Steven S. Long (08:03.19 PM)
Heya, LL

How big's that, Gordon?
Sweet.

Gordon Feiner (08:04.50 PM)
Though, I may just go for 2TB drives.

Shane Harsch (08:05.08 PM)
Gordon - hear about bitcasa?

Gordon Feiner (08:05.19 PM)
Bitcasa? no, what is it?

Indiana Joe (08:06.01 PM)
Sheesh, and I thought I had quite a quite a bit - only 20 gigs.

Robert Dwyer (08:06.11 PM)
anyone ever see Ninja assassin? Just saw it...

Shane Harsch (08:06.16 PM)
bitwise encrypted mapping of your drive, stored in the cloud, dedup'ed across the entire account base of bitcasa. Essentially, if there's a version of your file in bitcasa, no need to upload.
$10/month. Completely encrypted, end to end.

Lord Liaden (08:06.28 PM)
Robert -- I would vote for converting Wrath of the Seven Horsemen.

Gordon Feiner (08:06.38 PM)
oh - I don't do clouds. don't trust 'em. Don't want to require a net connection to get my stuffs.

Steven S. Long (08:06.48 PM)
OK, I've allowed for stragglers, so time for... announcements! :)

Shane Harsch (08:06.56 PM)
You don't, It's offsite backup.

Robert Dwyer (08:07.00 PM)
I do have that one LL..so a definite possibility

Steven S. Long (08:07.10 PM)
First, tonight's chat may be a bit short. I've got a splitting headache from two days' worth of construction noises and paint fumes.

Narf the Mouse (08:07.42 PM)
@Steve: Try three weeks. :|

Steven S. Long (08:07.49 PM)
Second, for those who haven't heard yet, APG2 is now available for sale in PDF form! It was sent to the printer a week ago so hopefully we'll soon have hardcopies in hand, allowing for bundles etc.

Lord Liaden (08:07.49 PM)
Steve -- hope you're not taking the "HERO is a toolcase" analogy too literally. ;)

Shane Harsch (08:07.56 PM)
duuude, quit bogartin' the fumes, man.

Steven S. Long (08:08.02 PM)
LL, nope, nothing like that. ;)
Third, I am hard at work on THE BOOK OF THE EMPRESS, detailing one of our most dangerous master villains, the infamous Istvatha V'han.

Indiana Joe (08:08.45 PM)
Yeah, even 6e is a mediocre happer, poor screwdriver, and a lousy wrench.

Steven S. Long (08:08.46 PM)
Today I finished Chapter Three, which covers her Imperial Legions -- her military, espionage service, superhuman soldiers, et cetera.

Narf the Mouse (08:08.52 PM)
...If she shows up to correct anything, don't panic - No point.

Indiana Joe (08:08.52 PM)
*hammer

Steven S. Long (08:09.11 PM)
It includes what I think is the largest Active Point power ever written up for a HERO System book, a 90,000 Active Point weapon. }:)

Robert Dwyer (08:09.33 PM)
so did statting out her legions require you to point out she has 10 trillion soldiers(at least) :)

Steven S. Long (08:09.46 PM)
Tomorrow I'll dive into Chapter Five, which looks at the Empire as a whole -- how it's run, how it functions, how it conquers and integrates dimensions, that sorta thing.

Gordon Feiner (08:10.04 PM)
sweet, I cannot wait for this book. It's going to be so awesome

Robert Dwyer (08:10.04 PM)
holy spit...i dpon't even wanna know what they would need such a weapon for

Lord Liaden (08:10.10 PM)
Hm... think I'll sift through my collection to check AP totals. :p

Steven S. Long (08:10.21 PM)
Robert, I think I just said "quadrillions" and left it at that, but I may be wrong. I think I pegged the overall imperial population in the heptillions.

Robert Dwyer (08:10.36 PM)
I know...i was being obnoxious

Lord Liaden (08:11.07 PM)
I've never even heard "heptillions" used before. Sounds like it needs a vaccine.

Steven S. Long (08:11.44 PM)
Nope, just a lot of sleeping space. :)

Robert Dwyer (08:12.00 PM)
Still...I still wanna see the book....if only to figure out how she runs these "billions" of dimensions

Steven S. Long (08:12.05 PM)
Fourth, once BotE is done, I will of course be starting on a long-anticipated project, MYTHIC HERO. :)

Robert Dwyer (08:12.07 PM)
she's only one gal afterall
yay Mythic Hero...really wanna see that one

Steven S. Long (08:12.45 PM)
Robert, here's a hint: she's one gal who can travel in time. She can basically cram thousands of hours' worth of work into a single day. That Replay power I wrote up in APG2 sure comes in handy. :)

Robert Dwyer (08:13.15 PM)
a ha....interesting clue from Steve...taking notes

Gordon Feiner (08:13.37 PM)
She hols court in every dimension, every day, at once. She's like a one-woman Fight Club - drives the ambulances, guards them while they sleep....

Indiana Joe (08:13.48 PM)
Wouldn't she still experience it sequentially?

Lord Liaden (08:14.03 PM)
I noticed that Cryptic jumped on the Roin'esh from CBY for their next adventure pack. I wonder what they'll take from BOTD?

Robert Dwyer (08:14.08 PM)
well..she's immortal...

Lord Liaden (08:14.24 PM)
I mean BOTE. :o

Narf the Mouse (08:14.41 PM)
And presumably has Edetic Memory and Physical Complication: Is Never Bored.

Robert Dwyer (08:14.53 PM)
heh...let's hope so

Steven S. Long (08:15.03 PM)
IJ, yes, but she's immortal. Her subjective experience of hte time is largely irrelevant, especially for special effects purposes. ;)

Indiana Joe (08:15.05 PM)
That's hardly a Complication, IMHO.
Good point.

Robert Dwyer (08:15.23 PM)
though many master villains are so tough...you think they'd just be bored stuiff..Menton fro example..

Steven S. Long (08:15.33 PM)
LL, that's a good question! There's certainly *lots* in BotE they could work with, esp. if they want to do extradimensional adventure zones.

Robert Dwyer (08:16.07 PM)
General refernece I think fell

Steven S. Long (08:17.09 PM)
Fell, no, it's a supplement for any HERO System game. I suspect it will see the most use in FH campaigns, but it's just as applicable to Champions, Star Hero, Pulp Hero, or whatever else if you want to include gods and mythic beings in the game.
I could see it as the basis for an entire Champions campaign, f'rex.
Several different Champions campaigns, really.

Fellhard (08:18.03 PM)
thx

Steven S. Long (08:18.05 PM)
Then of course we get Shane to run "How To Be A God" at conventions. ;)

Lord Liaden (08:18.12 PM)
Steve -- and if you ever look over my GMing shoulder, you probably will. :D

Steven S. Long (08:18.21 PM)
LL, no doubt! :)

Robert Dwyer (08:18.38 PM)
I have a player who is an avatar of ra...so i plan to use Mythic Hero to give her the opportunity to interact with the pantheon

Steven S. Long (08:18.52 PM)
Sounds like a great plan, Robert!

Gordon Feiner (08:19.12 PM)
what's next after Mythic?

Robert Dwyer (08:19.24 PM)
She's been asking me...so if I'm this powerful...how powerful is Ra actually? Uhhh...you don't wanna know

Steven S. Long (08:19.41 PM)
Next after MH is TIME TRAVEL HERO.

Gordon Feiner (08:19.51 PM)
Ra, if someone asks you if you're a God, you say "yes"
Ooh, Time Travel... yay!
So, like December for TTH?

Indiana Joe (08:20.17 PM)
Hasn't TTH been released already? Wait, it's still 2011. Never mind.

Steven S. Long (08:20.17 PM)
I've been collecting up quotes from DOCTOR WHO for TTH.

Gordon Feiner (08:20.28 PM)
You need Time Bandits quotes too

Robert Dwyer (08:20.33 PM)
Steve..with regards to TT Hero..any specific time periods you wanna cover..?

Steven S. Long (08:20.52 PM)
Gordon -- probably not that early. Writing MYTHIC HERO is going to take me at least two months, and I won't finish BotE until end of September at the earliest -- all this stuff going on in my house/life is slowing me up a bit.

Indiana Joe (08:21.00 PM)
And _The Time Machine_. And Maybe _The Wizard of Speed and Time_.

Fellhard (08:21.28 PM)
are you remodeling your house?

Steven S. Long (08:21.45 PM)
Robert -- I am currently planning to have little mini-genre books on key periods (like Rome, Swashbuckling, Wild West, maybe Civil War). That may fall by the wayside based on how much time I have; writing those little chapters will require a disproportionate amount of work.
Fellhard -- nope, I am converting one room to a home theater. A pretty kick-ass home theater, if I do say so meself. :)

Fellhard (08:22.29 PM)
fun

Robert Dwyer (08:22.29 PM)
Just curious.....but...assuming those mini chapters get dropped...what is the book covering basically?

Lord Liaden (08:22.29 PM)
Steve -- might save those mini-settings for HPAs in the future.

Gordon Feiner (08:22.55 PM)
If he gets that home theater installed, though, we may never see him again...

Steven S. Long (08:22.59 PM)
Robert, it will cover various aspects of time travel -- how it might work, what the implications are of the choices you make -- how to campaign with time travel, lots and lots of other stuff.
Robert, it'll cover how time travel works (what the options are, and the implications of those options, etc.), time travel campaign, time traveler characters, all sorts of stuff.

Lord Liaden (08:23.55 PM)
Steve, how's Osiris adapting to all the construction kafuffle?

Steven S. Long (08:25.15 PM)
LL, pretty well I think, though I've had to keep him locked downstairs the past couple nights so he doesn't mess up the freshly-painted room. Hate to do it but no other choice really.
Soon it'll all be back to normal and no worries.

Robert Dwyer (08:25.32 PM)
so...based on the current time table..Mythic hero probably won't be out until after X-mas..and TT Hero definitely won't
Empress should hit before....I'm assuming the actually print versions

Steven S. Long (08:26.07 PM)
Robert, that's correct. It's just too much work. Heck, I'd take three or four months on MYTHIC HERO if I could. That's gonna be such fun to write I'm probably not gonna want to stop. :)

Robert Dwyer (08:26.54 PM)
It's a cool subject...I always loved just reading the old Deitied and demigods books

Shane Harsch (08:26.57 PM)
will you include a sweet timeline of history with game-able events?

Fellhard (08:26.57 PM)
is there any plan or vision of a bestiary II ?

Lord Liaden (08:28.19 PM)
Maybe you could do a Mythic Hero Companion one day.

Steven S. Long (08:28.21 PM)
Shane, most likely I will. In fact the period-related chapters may get reduced to timelines. Though not timelines as complex as the one in PH; if you want that just go buy THE TIMELINES OF HISTORY. ;)
Fellhard, nope, no such plans at this time. Next year's HORROR HERO will include a bestiary chapter though.
LL, I wouldn't mind that. I've also thought about doing LEGENDARY HERO, but that'll be tough since some of the juciest legendary bits are getting shoehorned into MH as a slight bending of the rules. :)

Fellhard (08:29.14 PM)
kewl breeze

Robert Dwyer (08:29.14 PM)
Not sure we need another bestiary to be honest

Lord Liaden (08:29.22 PM)
Steve, this came up on the forums today: Realistically, what are the prospects for further Villains books after CV3?

Steven S. Long (08:29.25 PM)
Robert, that was sort of the intent. ;)

Fellhard (08:29.51 PM)
the current Bestiary does not have many of the clasic monster

Steven S. Long (08:30.08 PM)
LL, not very likely. That's the whole point of making them so thorough. Individual supplements will have villains, of course; CBY does, BotE does, MarWorld will. But I don't plan any more villain books.

Robert Dwyer (08:31.00 PM)
Marworld?

Lord Liaden (08:31.01 PM)
Fellhard, you should check out Mike Surbrook's Here Be Dragons, from Blackwyrm Games. Lots of beasties from real folklore.

Gordon Feiner (08:31.02 PM)
A bestiary of regional real world mythic creatures would be cool. African creatures, South American, other regions not widely covered

Indiana Joe (08:31.48 PM)
Might fit into Mythic Hero if they don't rate their own book.

Lord Liaden (08:32.02 PM)
Steve, I haven't yet given up hope of seeing those capsule baddies from CBY written up one day.

Fellhard (08:32.08 PM)
i was looking for a few things like .. kobolds .. beholders .. shambling mounds .. those sort of things

Steven S. Long (08:32.11 PM)
It might be cool, but in light of the generally mediocre sales of the Asian Bestiaries, it almost certainly will not happen. You can think of MH as a sort of "bestiary" if you like; that's about as close as we'll come.

Robert Dwyer (08:32.32 PM)
Honestly...covering myths...Mythic Hero could be like an encyclopedia set...it's quite a project..

Fellhard (08:32.36 PM)
likely thinks that are not very hard to just make from scratch

Steven S. Long (08:32.53 PM)
Fellhard, a lot of those are WotC intellectual property. The HSB covers the vast majority of what most gamers need. If you want to copy another game's critters, you'll have to do the conversions yourself. ;)
Though in fact I think I could do most D&D creatures through easy adaptations of HSB entries.

Fellhard (08:33.47 PM)
that is a good idea

Steven S. Long (08:34.04 PM)
A kobold, f'rex, is basically just the HSB's Goblin with a different paint job.

Lord Liaden (08:34.05 PM)
Or you could raid Surbrook's Stuff -- he has quite a few of those converted.

Steven S. Long (08:34.20 PM)
SHambling mound could probably be done with one of the Plants, Monstrous.
Beholder -- that's too iconic D&D, you'd have to do it from scratch. But it'd be easy; just use Duplication the same way I do for the Hydra.

Lord Liaden (08:34.59 PM)
I believe Mathew Ignash's website has a bunch, too.

Robert Dwyer (08:35.08 PM)
I agree with Steve...i usually just adapt an existing creature if I wanna raid WOTC...or do the conversion myself

Fellhard (08:35.28 PM)
duplication one body type thing ..
many systems have multiple fantasy creature manuals .. so that is why i asked

Lord Liaden (08:36.51 PM)
Hero Games had multiple bestiaries for Fifth Edition, too, until Steve the Great Compiler gathered them for 6E. ;)

Steven S. Long (08:38.18 PM)
Oh sure, but since I had the opportunity to gather 'em into one big book for 6E, I took it. I think the HSB is enough to hold most gamers for most campaigns. Which is arguably bad business, but we try to provide good value for your gaming dollar.

Fellhard (08:38.29 PM)
there is tons of 5th edition resources to hunt through for ideas to dig through

Robert Dwyer (08:38.58 PM)
Well...I wanna pick up the APG2(though some of the abilties seem abusive even by hero stop sign standards...and BOTE...and CV39eventually)..

Gordon Feiner (08:39.09 PM)
5E had about 100 books to pull ideas from. No shortage with a little legwork there.

Steven S. Long (08:39.32 PM)
All right folx, I think it's time for me to call it a night. I wanna go lay me head down inna dark, quiet room. See ya next week!

Lord Liaden (08:39.35 PM)
Well, if the more targeted individual bestiaries had sold better, I imagine Hero would make more of them.

Gordon Feiner (08:39.38 PM)
see ya Steve.

Steven S. Long (08:39.58 PM)
When our guests will be Minka Kelly, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and musical guest Hot Chelle Rae. See you then!

Thanks, LL! It's nice to see this when I don't/can't participate in the weekly chat.

Thanks for this LL. I have a secret hope that one day the time zones will allow me to sit in on a Steve chat, but it hasn't happened yet...
