View Full Version : Question: Dan's absence and Hero Designer

What is the status of Dan's absence? Is he ever coming back to support Hero Designer?

What is Hero's plan for customers who have purchased the support contracts but haven't seen any new updates since February? Will they get contract extensions? Maybe the vault could be given a freebies section or be made entirely free until Dan comes back? Alternately, could the contract price be reduced since there is no current company support?

this is pretty much why I have not renewed my HD contract

I had asked in a post here if there was an an update to HD3
got directed to Dan's post about it being his last for a while till things got settled
as to what needed settling he did not say

I wonder why the Vault was not free in the first place
it is not like you need HD to view the characters as they are in the Vault
you need HD to mod them if you are going to use them

Here is the post (and link to thread) in question:
Hey all -

Due to on-going concerns (which will need to remain private/between myself and DOJ), I will not be continuing my support for HD. Please understand that this has nothing to do with you (the users) -- you're unfortunately being caught in the middle of some "stuff" that you have no control over....and that sucks.

What this means:

I will not be posting to this forum much (if at all)
No updates to the software will be forthcoming for the forseeable future
Support within this forum will need to fall to the users (who have been doing a remarkably good job of late) and DOJ

This is not an end-point...just a pause while things are worked out. At such time as the "stuff" is resolved, you can expect me to be back with a vengeance.

I read the original posting when Dan made it. I just wanted to know if things are close to a resolution since its been a few months now.

What is the issue ?

My guess would be money.

I'd prefer not to speculate.

Whatever the issue is, it seems to me that those of us who have purchased licenses are due at least some kind of official information. Can we expect HD to be supported again at some point? Will there be future releases, or has the project essentially come to an end?

I'm not asking for details, as those are probably legal in nature, but a recognition from Hero Games that the situation exists and when and if we can expect a resolution is not unreasonable.

My subscription has run out
I see no need to renew till there is word that either there will be a new HD program(new programer) or going forward with Dan

It is the lack of any word from Steve or Darren on this subject that has my goat

I thought posting this in Company Questions would get some kind of a response by now, but I don't know how often they check this forum.

Might it be time for an attempt at direct contact, then?

Hey guys! We're still working out our situation with Dan, and hope to have it resolved soon. I don't have any more information for you yet, or we'd have posted it. dw

Thank you for the update. Is there anything Hero can offer regarding extending contracts for people for the time without HD support and software updates?

If I was to speculate, it would be for items that have little basis with reality.

Dan has decided to become the Ultimate Cage Fighter for instance and has no time to program outside his training regime.

Dan has become the Ultimate Cage, and no longer has fingers with which to program.

Personally, I hope that everything works out to everybody's satisfaction.

The truth is, I've been keeping Dan locked up in my basement for the past several months.

Unfortunately, his wife has been keeping me locked up in her basement for the last several months too, until I let him out. But she won't let me out, so I can't let him out. So we've got this catch-22 thing going on. I figure it will resolve itself one way or the other soon enough. Or one of us will starve to death. Either way.

teh bunneh, locked up in a woman's basement? Methinks that teh bunneh is not trying terribly hard to escape.

Which means, for Dan's sake, that we must mount a rescue operation. Posters Assemble!!!

And you've been with BunnySue having a new baby? Not buying it, bunneh!
